I Googled to find out that you are referring to Catezza. Not sure you know that Catezza’s owners recently bought Il Nido.
They own Il Nido, Centrada, and are bringing Daddy’s Chicken Shack to NJ.
Bringing the mediocrity to a town near you
Would appreciated more high end like La Lupa
Or a decent restaurant along the lines of Greek Spot
I’m so over these high end places that are only high end in price and attitudes
I’ve been down here for 9 years and there is still NO. GOOD. CHINESE. FOOD. within 10 minutes of Asbury Park. It’s really beyond me! See also: ramen. Two types of restaurants that I’m sure would make a ton of $$$ down here!

Taka’s early success was probably a factor and then when he moved to Cookman and with the move by MOGO to Cookman was probably a big factor as rents escalated. Used to be a few “ cheap Chinese “ type restaurants on Main Street probably long gone due to the gentrification of my former hometown. Doesn’t Taka’s have ramen? It’s been awhile since I’ve been there.
The fix was in apparently
Taka is still there, as are a couple of the super cheap Chinese places on Main Street, none good. I’m a fan of Taka, but I want a place that only does ramen, like Ani Ramen up in NNJ!
Got Ramen Nagomi in little old Freehold it’s quite good but might be a stretch for you as you want local
Yup. That’s what I mean. I can drive 25+ minutes for Sichuan Cottage, Jinli, and more - but there’s nothing in CLOSE reach. Ippin Ramen on 35 in Ocean is okay, but not enough to keep pulling me in unless I’m having a serious craving.
Here’s a reason for your lack of local Chinese food
Wow! I’ll have to wait a day or two for this to be unlocked but TY! I love this stuff. (But I still want good Chinese food…)
Please try Asia Star on Asbury Ave, Tinton Falls. 11-minute drive from AP.
Is that in the strip mall close to the GSP? There’s a bakery in there as well? If so, I’ve tried it.
There is a Dunkin’ Donuts and Taste of Italy. I don’t recall a bakery. There is a much lower rated Asian restaurant in the strip mall directly across the street, where there is a bakery. Asia Star is on your left as you approach the GSP from AP. We love the duck and so many other things!
Ahh…then I tried the wrong one! Thanks for the tip - will def give it a shot. TY!
Taka is always good but is more of a fusion type cuisine. Pickings are so slim around AP but we’ve found that Hot Sichuan on Wickepecko is better than most (and they don’t suburbanize the spice!!) Rice on Cookman also isn’t too bad.
That’s good to hear…maybe I have to try Hot Sichuan again; wasn’t at all impressed the one time I tried it.
Agreed on Hot Sichuan
