Any suggestions for Thai with curb side pick up? Freehold Manalapan area?
Thanks
I don’t get how they are still in business. They don’t have a liquor license either.
That’s the other thing. What a tease. They had a tiny sign on the door and as soon as you walk in, fully stocked bar just sitting there unused. That’s actually how we ended up there. It was a brutally hot day and we saw they had a bar and thought that an ice-cold beer would be great with Chinese food.
I heard they got screwed by the town out of their liquor licence.
And they’re still hanging on to the hope of getting one all these years later? I guess they have nothing to lose at this point. If anything, it gains them business by luring in unsuspecting people who don’t know the deal.
That’s exactly how I wound up there the first time. I used to like going to House of Chong in Middletown because they had a liquor license and was closer than Crown Palace so I was lured into this place because of the big tempting bar.

Welcome to - - - - - - is there anything I can get to start you off.
(Me)
Hello, sure can I get a Stoli martini up no vermouth just olives
(waiter)
Oh I’m sorry we don’t serve alcohol
(me)
Oh funny because I passed a full bar on my way to the table, you sure you don’t serve alcohol?
(waiter)
Yes I’m sure we don’t serve it, the bar is for aesthetics
(Me)
But it’s fully stocked ((which it literally was at the time))
(waiter)
Correct we still don’t serve alcohol
(Me)
{{deep sigh}} I’ll have an ice water…
He actually said “for aesthetics”?
Well, since everyone but me seems to know what this place is, how about letting me in on the secret? IMHO, the current economic situation is no reason to protect bad places, which only draw people away from more deserving ones.
Greg this was probably 10 years ago, you (and I ) are lucky I still remember being there at all. Wait…wait…wait…upon further reflection I believe he said “ambiance” instead of aesthetics!! (that enhance the story?)
Wait a minute! Has anyone ever seen Greg and Jr together in the same room???
I submit that they are, in fact, the same person!!!
@NotJrvedivici and @gcaggiano I want the truth!
If you look for Chinese food in Red Bank on Yelp and then check for $5 filet mignon egg roll you will find it pretty quickly.
This is far deeper than an economic situation so forgive me for trying to be respectful if perhaps the chef, owners, managers etc could be sick or worse. (God forbid) So given the gravity of the overall circumstances in which we are all living I chose not to mention them by name and do request no one else do so either.
As for yourself I don’t ever recall you posting about dining in or taking out, especially Chinese, in Red Bank so I think you are safe. Just in case you have a hankering to do so stick to places that were take out prior to this and you’ll be fine!
I would have loved for my one meal there to have been “mediocre”. However, that would have been about 3 levels above the slop I was served.
What a conceited, arrogant response. (The waiter’s, not your post LOL)
Fits their attitude perfectly.
Upon looking at my review, I gave them 2.5 out of 5. I was more forgiving 2+ years ago.
One item of note, the chicken dish I had was supposed to be “topped with a finely chopped pepper relish”. What I received was a mountain of deep fried nugget-shaped pieces of battered chicken topped with three or four tiny slices of pepper.
IIRC, our two entrees (one chicken + one shrimp) and an order of dumplings was around $60. I don’t remember if that included tip, and we both had water.
I’ll debunk that theory by saying not even I could drink straight chilled vodka with no ice or vermouth.
Nice article and good to see they are fairing well. Funny that peas and macaroni recipe is very similar to one my mother in law (rip) had made fro years.
Somebody help me out, please? I could swear I posted about wholesale (produce?) places that are in/delivering to northern NJ. I’ve searched but can’t find it! @paryzer and others–any recollection or recommendations? I just got off a call with a friend in Maplewood who’s very jealous of my Cuttler Produce pickups. Thx!
Edit: As I typed Maplewood, I wondered if Gargiulo in Hillside has opened up to the general public…?
Not sure if this is what you mean, but I found this (from you? from somewhere else??) https://shop.usepepper.com/
You pop in your zip code and it shows a list of purveyors that are delivering to you. Obviously not a complete list but helpful.
