We ordered this last night. Really good experience. Food was really good and def enough food for two dinners out of it. Nothing too fancy, chicken Parm, rigatoni vodka, nice salad, half loaf of bread. Really tasty, dressing was nice. All that food for 55. Three half trays. For another $5 got a huge side of really tasty fries. Huge portion. Ordered online and paid via Apple Pay which was nice bonus. The site let me know my order number and tracked the process to let me know when order was fired and ready. Pulled up to r on front and order was placed in trunk within 3 min of me arriving in the lot. Gabriellas was a big plus for us. Will prob order Patrizias family meal next week to compare. But man it’s gonna be tough to beat this one. Can’t recommend enough if you like this stuff esp of you have kiddos too
Just a heads up to those who read these boards and know many of the popular locations etc. I have been dying for some Chinese food and ever since finding out Little Szechuan in Little Silver was closed and so are my local back up locations, I’ve been bummed. Well last night I decided enough is enough and I decided to order from the “upscale” Chinese restaurant in Red Bank (I’m going to leave their name out of this because I don’t want to beat them up during such difficult times) for curb side pick up. I’ve been to this restaurant before and while it’s never been bad, I’ve just felt it was a rip off and much better could be found within a short drive, like Little Szechuan. So after a try or two I abandoned them until last night.
Small order of ribs + fried rice + 3 chicken entree’s + 1 egg roll + small soup = $ 110 w/out tip.
Horrible. Absolutely horrible. The “filet mignon” eggroll at $ 5. (the only egg roll offered) I didn’t even finish it was literally gross. All 3 chicken dishes, although different were almost identically the same brown oyster sauce that just screamed mediocrity. Chinese cooking is far from my forte, but when you are eating it and you say to yourself; “Dam I could do so much better than this” you know something is wrong. Also pet peeve, one small duck sauce less than half full and a smaller container of hot mustard NO soy sauce.
The fried rice was actually pretty good, that was it.
So my advice is if you are looking for Chinese take out, stay away from Red Bank.
Besides Sichaun Cottage, we also really like Asia Star Cafe on 4060 Asbury Ave in Tinton Falls. We planned on ordering from them soon if they are still open.
I’ve had similar experience there- one was enough to make me write them off forever. I’ve heard people enjoy eating there for a sit down meal- maybe they just can’t handle takeout? Had same thought- how could they have let this leave the kitchen?
I agree with your point about not kicking places when they are down as well- I thought long and hard and decided to forgo a review of a spot I recently ordered from that was really unenjoyable. Chalking it up to unprecedented times and moving on- but won’t try them again (at least not for a long time).
Also really missing good Chinese food locally for a spur of the moment dinner…
Here’s our tried and true picks: Spider roll, wonton soup, crab rangoon, gen Tso’s chicken, thai curry chicken or shrimp, ginger crispy chicken, thai style fried rice with chicken or shrimp. Hope they are open!
Seems to a trend of re-openings this Thursday. I think at first it was assumed to be a 30 day closure and some people viewed it as a mandatory vacation. Now that it’s clearly not just a 30 day closure and the bills are still coming in, time to put the aprons back on.
I dined at “this place” nearly two years ago. While it was not terrible, mediocre would be the word. AND EXPENSIVE. Nothing was standout. It was on the bottom end of the Chinese food spectrum of all places I’ve been to, including those which are strictly takeout.
This places screams pretentiousness. Their menu wording for certain dishes makes you think it will be a luxurious, gourmet meal. Far from it. They have no idea what they are doing.
