I would imagine that these things are constantly in flux and changing almost daily. As for Sichuan Cottage, the few conversations I’ve had with the owner convinced me he is not social media savvy. Maybe somebody should let Monmouth county know he is open?
I’m going there tonight for takeout. If I see the guy I’m familiar with, I’ll ask if there’s anything I can do to help their online presence. That’s if he recognizes me with my mask on.
That’s pretty cool. Just out of curiosity since I’m not familiar with them, is this something they are just doing because of the pandemic or do they normally sell from the dock?
Typically boats are not allowed to sell directly to the public (in NJ). I believe they received some dispensation due to the pandemic. They must have, since I doubt they would be advertising illegal activity.
Like the restaurants being temporarily allowed to sell bottles of wine and liquor.
I thought about going there last time I saw this but ended up at Point Lobster. I think they are on the Neptune side of the Shark river, behind Sunsets.
Gabriella’s Steakhouse in Middletown has a pretty good looking family meal offer- you can order online and pickup- also - cocktails to go, some 10 dollar apps as well. Looking for a family meal my self this weekend - might look to this as I’m not really a huge fan of the current Patrizias offering.
We ordered dinner last night from Teak in Red Bank (Uber Eats). It’s a decent alternative if you’re craving Asian. We had pork potstickers (only 4 for $13.50), Teak Pad Thai with chicken, and pan-seared salmon. Everything was very good. The veggies under the salmon were delicious.
So Porta opened up today for pick up, they took the parking spots in front and across the street and put sand buckets, and flags with numbers, when you pull up you text them your spot and the bring the order.
I walked by at 4 when the opened and all spots were full and walked by again at 530 and all spots were full and cars were wiating to pull into spots.
I think Porta may realize they made a mistake closing because they could have been pulling in something for the last few weeks
Good to know; I think I’m going to let them get in their groove and be sure they’re healthy (I feel this way about anyone just opening back up), but I can’t wait to get some of those meatballs!
As a 30-plus year veteran of the hospitality industry, I am impressed at the support restaurants have received everywhere, especially in our area (Monmouth). Many people dine out because they can afford it, and probably never give a second thought as to the personal cost. Others simply don’t have the kitchen skills and rely on the kitchen expertise of others to prepare their daily sustenance. And there are those who appreciate the human and social connection.
We are blessed with an incredible variety of independent small foodservice providers that represent all corners of the world.
Keep it up people. I do not care about your political leanings or personal opinions, your actions are awesome and support these people who work, sometimes their whole lives, in a thankless industry that mostly goes unappreciated.
