That is great! I have not seen that episode for 45 years or so. I think the middle finger salute from the last guy went over my head when I saw it earlier.
On edit: It was filmed in NJ apprently, I thought they said they went to Barstow.
I tried David Rocco’s puttanesca sauce tonight ($8.99- $9.99 CAD, so relatively fancy for pasta sauce but costs a few dollars less than Rao’s or Carbone which cost $11.99 CAD). It was okay. I like Carbone’s marinara and tomato basil more.
Contains lots of olives, they did not skimp.
Speaking of spoons…The Disappearing Spoon by Sam Kean is a great read.
Looks interesting, I will have to check it out.
There might have been more than one of them, with another in Barstow.
Has anyone tried this Thanksgiving Pizza?
Unfortunately, when I tried to go and buy it, it’s sold out.
Barstow and New Jersey are almost the same place, aren’t they?

To me in 1974 Barstow meant scrambler races through the desert with California dudes riding converted DT-1 Yamahas at crazy speed, racing by by old Okies tilling dry soil, still trying to find the American Dream after coming to California during the Dust Bowl 40 years before.
My reading at the time primarily consisted of Dirt Bike Magazine and John Steinbeck.
Plus Mad Magazine but that did not have that much to do with California.
New Jersey was terra incognita. The Godfather was a book i read standing up in the library. I could not get into the movie because i was too young.
I thought the guys on Candid Camera were Californian truckers but NOW I think that they did “act” like NJ gangsters.
To be a fly on the wall had someone offered Hunter S. Thompson a spoon that was supposed to dissolve…
I had not connected the two in my mind until you mentioned the possibility and I burst out laughing aloud.
I spent 6 or 8 years exploring the thoughts of Castaneda, Kerouac, Huxley, Wolfe and Hunter, so this strikes a certain chord for me.
I still shudder to think that erasing personal history and running in darkness actually made sense to me at one point. I need to say a sincere thank you to all the friends that tolerated me in those years.
Does the BNSF and the UP run in New Jersey?
Hard pass
Would.
My first reaction is oh yuck.
But I’m the girl who will try all the weird chip/crisp flavors so I’d probably try them!
That sounds pretty good to me, actually. Would try.
I’m sending that photo to a friend. He served haggis at his wedding dinner….
That is one bold Scotsman.
Haggis engenders strong emotions, both positive and negative.
Kudos to the bride for not harshing on the groom’s family serving it.
