New items you’ve purchased at the grocery store

I’ve purchased but haven’t tried a Tillamook Cheesy Uncured Pepperoni pizza. I’m not expecting it to be worth the almost $10 price tag, but I hadn’t seen a Tillamook pizza before and was curious. Bought it at Walmart and noticed that they’re carrying Rao’s frozen pizzas too now. They’re about the same price there as the Tillamook pizzas.

I also gave Gordon another chance. The Chef Ramsay Chicken Pot Pie is the best of those celebrity branded frozen foods that I’ve had. Unlike the Kardea Brown chicken pot pie which I microwaved, I cooked this one in the oven. Night and day difference in the puff pastry crust of those two pot pies. This one was actually pretty good , if a bit salty. I may retry a Kardea Brown pot pie cooked in the oven.

We used to enjoy a Jamie Oliver frozen fish pie here in Canada but it was taken off the market.

Years ago Wolfgang Puck had a line of small frozen pizzas. I liked them. They’re long gone. There was a local company that made frozen white pizzas with artichokes. They were wonderful. Also long gone.

I remember those. My MIL filled her freezer full of those. The nephews usualy demolished the lot before any of us rather refined adults even saw them.

I have not purchased these, but hoping for input from anyone who has. I like Rao’s dry pasta, marinara & pizza sauces.

Anyone try these?

Mmmmm…Craft Beer Battered Potatoes, thick cut.

Oh wait. That’s not what you were talking about. :smirk:

Yeah, they had those Rao’s pizzas at WF last week at half-price, and were sampling the cheese one. Meh. Bready, and so-so-flavor. It’s possible that the sample was just underbaked --but even so, not even worth it at $5 IMO. It was a fairly good-sized sample, and it had too high of a crust-to-topping ratio.

Thx for saving me some $$$!

Hmmm … he sold the line to ConAgra. (ewww) but then bought back the license.

I’ve had a Rao’s pepperoni pizza. It was okay, but there are better frozen pizzas for less money.

I think those are thin cut. I have a bag of those in my freezer and they’re some of my favorite frozen fries. The beer batter is so thin that calling it a batter is a bit misleading, but there’s enough to make the fries taste different than the typical frozen fries.

Also in that photo are McCain Quick Cook Crinkle Cut fries, and those are my favorite frozen crinkle cut fries, probably my favorite frozen fries of any style.

We like the quick cook waffle cut fries. Better results than the shoestring ones with more consistency

The beer battered fries are fine but not quick cook.

Agree on Bay’s Engmuff. Considerably better than the Thomas brand (which are okay-ish).

Edit - oops, didn’t realize this was a months-old thread/comment. Still, my family is much happier with Bays.

New to me, and new to my area, Cows’ Blue Moo triple cream blue cheese from Prince Edward Island. Available at Farm Boy locations (in Ontario, Canada)

I love it. It’s my favourite out of the Canadian blue cheeses I’ve tasted.

The best frozen pizza I’ve encountered for the price is Trader Joe’s, the “supreme” flavor. That’s not what they call it. Pepp, sausage, onion, peppers. About $5.50 and feeds 2-3.

New item - do we have a Costco thread? - I recently tried was frozen ham and cheese croissants. I just recently paid $7.50 for one at a bakery. It was awesome, but not sustainable. Costco’s are frozen, 8 to a pack, I think it cost about $13 or so (don’t recall), and they were quite passable. Also very easy. They’re not like the TJ’s where you have to put them out the night before. You can decide you want one, and have it. From frozen, 10 min at 400 at then 5 min rest.

Our Costco has frozen Vicolo pizza, three-packs for about $14. That’s nearly a third of the price of single Vicolos everywhere else. They have a thick cornmeal crust, which might not be to everyone’s taste, but I love them.

Now, if they could only make an edible Tagalongs fork.

Way back in the day a show called Candid Camera made a bunch of spoons out of pressed sugar. They looked just like a white plastic spoon. Then they took said spoons to a truck stop in Barstow CA, hid the cameras in a couple spots and gave the waitresses the spoons one night and asked them to give the spoons to truckers that ordered black coffee. So one after another these truckers rolled in for a meal and hot coffee and one by one they tried to stir their coffee only to see the “plastic” spoon melt away to nothing in the coffee.
The truckers reactions made for a great episode.
