New items you’ve purchased at the grocery store

Are they worth a 3 h drive to Buffalo? :joy:

Probably not…

No. I actually don’t mind Thomas’ as long as they are well toasted. You have to finish splitting them with a fork (whereas Bay’s are fully sliced), so you actually get more uneven craggy bits that toast up so well. I like both. Bay’s have good nooks for pooling butter, but I do like the crunchy spiky bits with Thomas’.

Bays are the best to grill, if you prefer a grilled english muffin.

Love 'em grilled. I’m thinking of making my own someday soon.

Black vinegar and dark soy sauce required a trip to the Asian products store. I swear to God I was transported back to SF’s Chinatown or India Imports of my childhood.

Inglehoffer’s lemon dill mustard with capers. Fab in vinaigrettes and tuna salad.

There was another item I wanted to post about a few days ago, but I could not find this thread for the life of me. And now I forgot what it was… #gettinoldsux

I’ve been trying lime flavored tortilla chips lately. Not too crazy about what I’ve had so far. Tostitos Hint of Lime taste like they’ve been dusted with some sort of powdered lime candy. I liked those the least. Santitas Cilantro Lime would be better if the flavoring was a little more subtle. They’re okay, but I’m not sure if I would buy them again. I liked Great Value Hint of Lime best of the three I’ve tried. Not great but the flavoring is more restrained than the other two.

Chef Ramsay Fish & Chips is the other thing new to me that I’ve had recently. It’s part of the celebrity branded lines of frozen foods that Walmart has started selling. Gordon Ramsay should be embarrassed to have his name on the item I had. It was a few heavily battered fish nuggets that weren’t any better than most battered/breaded frozen fish and a few chips which were dry and flavorless. Overpriced for what it was, too. Judging from the customer reviews, it’s one of the worst of Walmart’s new offerings. I may try some of the others. Guy Fieri, Andrew Zimmern, and Kardea Brown are their other celebrities. Very mixed customer reviews on all of these frozen foods.

I Just encountered these for the first time today at a farmers market. The vendor said to bite off a bit of the skin and then suck the pulp out. What did you do with them?

Huh. I was offered to try them at the farmers market as well & just are the whole thing.

Sliced off the little stem ends, halved them and threw them into yogurt. The skin is thin and edible.

Just an update to my earlier post.

I bought Kroger Lime Restaurant Style tortilla chips yesterday. These strike the best balance for me of the lime tortilla chips i’ve tried. They’re a bit sweeter and have more lime flavor than the Great Value Hint of Lime chips but are not so sweet as Tostitos Hint of Lime chips.

I’ve had a couple more of the Walmart celebrity branded frozen entrees, too.

Chef Ramsay did better with shepherd’s pie (beef, so actually cottage pie) than he did with the fish and chips. Still, not a great item and not something I would buy again.

Kardea Brown’s chicken pot pie was the best of the three I’ve had. Also, not great. The flavor wasn’t bad. I cooked it in the microwave, and the puff pastry crust was pretty tough. That one might be better if cooked in the oven, but I didn’t like it well enough to buy another to find out.

Chili Crisp?!
That stuff goes with everything! I started out using it to punch up a simple ramen package and it did a great job of that. Then I tried it on baked sweet potato, in addition to the usual butter, wow! Now I use it to add zest to vegies and potatoes too. A spoonful in any canned soup adds a certain level of heat, too. Another place I use it, albeit sparingly, is with cheese and charcuterie on crackers.
My only misadventure was the time I added it to a baked potato before I baked it. Thought I would try a new technique so I pricked the potato a bunch and rubbed chili crisp onto it. Well the chili crisp boiled out of the tin foil and landed on the bottom of the oven where it promptly caught fire in a huge smokey mess. Luckily it was a rented house.
The fire did not spread and I let it burn itself out inside the oven. But smoke was EVERYWHERE in that house for a week! Let me take a picture of my favorite variety of chili crisp, LaoGanMa, with my favorite background…

Dang it, I just went to Costco yesterday. I’ll keep my eyes peeled next time…

The Old Bay ones were awesome. Well, I love Old Bay and I thought they were awesome. DH is not a fan of either.

I tried this as milk for my coffee - frothed and not. Didn’t love it either way.

I didn’t finish the Califia PS latte within a week of opening. Was not a good purchase for me.
