In the US it would be more than a bit odd to order a tomato juice drink late at night. My go-to back when I used to have that issue was tonic with a splash of cranberry, a dash of bitters, and a lime wedge. Looks exactly like a cocktail, even tastes like a cocktail. Quite refreshing if you like bitter stuff (which, as a Negroni drinker, you can assume I do)!
A friend of mine has been ordering THC seltzers from Willie Nelsonās brand. They come in a variety of %, and she loves them. Sadly, ingesting THC does fuckall for me, so itās not an option.
I generally only get mocktails when I am dining out since the places I go to usually make them on site and they are very flavourful. I had a mocktail-in-a-can just before Christmas since the resto I was at doesnāt make any of their mixed drinks onsite. It was very watery and didnāt have much flavour to it so I have been avoiding buying them for home use. I love the Fever Tree sodas and NA beer is really good - I think I actually prefer NA beers to the ones with alcohol. I will be taking a mocktail making class at the end of January so hopefully we will learn to make some awesome mixed drinks that I can make at home. I would love to make a daquiri.
in Canada, Bloody and Virgin Caesars are served at brunch, as well as at lunch and dinner, with snacks, while watching sports at pubs and sports bars, Superbowl Parties, and so on. They have become a national drink, an anytime drink. LOL
I like sour cocktails. I have not developed a palate for bitter cocktails or tonic water, despite trying. LOL
Iām a Tom Collins / Whisky Sour / Daiquiri afficionado
I like ānon alcoholic cocktailsā when I dine out because I donāt drink alcohol and I donāt drink soda. That often leaves water, which is okay, but itās nice when the restaurant can put together something to drink that feels special, like they think about it as much as the do their food.
Itās not like a meat substitute pretending to be meat!
Ok, now Iāll read the linked article. ![]()
I find shrubs or juice spritzer (easy on the juice, unless one likes it sweet) make for a nice dining companion. But Iām the outlier in that I almost exclusively drink carbonated water with my dinners at home. Itās rare that I have even half a glass of wine with dinner ā Iām more of a post-dinner drinker / drunk ![]()
I do the same.
So am I the only one doing this dry January thing? Tomorrow must be January 31 right?
I got you.
Iām with you and no tomorrow isnāt January 31st. Hang in there, weāre over the hump.
Same here⦠All dry here in the desert.
I wonder if any of the stores (here) will run sales on February 1st??
Yay!! Glad to have the company!
I had a pretty lushy (lushful?) November and December with lots of parties and work events involving drinking so I was ready for break. This is my third year, and I started off January with a bad cold so it kind of made things easier.
Iāve had several hospitalizations this past year and have been told to avoid alcohol, which I have, entirely! I just tried my first Athletic. I was pleasantly surprised, and happy that I now have something other than water or diet Dr. Pepper to drink with my food.
If anyone interested in free apps,
Different goal, but Iāve used this one for simple behavioral reinforcement
And Iāve read about this one
ā¦and this one
Yes very popular with husband and now my younger son who barely drinks anymore likes them. Iāve never liked the taste of beer so still sticking with my small pour of white or rose with fizzy water.

Tonight I had Flying Dogās Deep Fake IPA, not as piney as the athletic - a little richer, I donāt know beer tasting jargon!
2025 wound down adjusting alcohol consumption downward. We have alcohol one or two times a week and keep it to one drink. It is feeling good. We have even learned to enjoy some NA beers. Heineken 0.0 tastes a lot like Heineken. Michelob Ultra Zero tastes almost the same as regular Ultra, super light and a little sweet but..only 29 calories! The hardest thing to address is wine. Wine just does not work well as an āonly oneā drink.
