Yay, you!
Congrats!
Thatās more or less my plan this month. My DH quit alcohol altogether after the last Dry January. Iām not drinking at home this time around. Nights out are fair game though.
Iām trying to cut my consumption by half. Results have been mixed so far! But Iām also not trying that hard.
Is that like Soberish October? j/k
Besides a more social week here and there, weāve cut down on drinking at home significantly already over the last year.
Much as I love my martinis, sticking to 2 / night has been a wise choice. I just donāt like how sluggish I feel the next day after more than that, and the effect on my insides is never good.
Alcohol is a poison, pure and simple. So⦠choose your poison & dosage well.
Iām dry. When I decide to get wet again Iāll try and keep to my 2 drinks per week I was doing last year. Most of the time .
December was rather soaked on this end. Iām targeting damp for January. I ordered a bunch of wine late last year and itās going to show up on my doorstep very soon, which will make this a touch more difficult to honor. But my overall goal is to reduce random late night āguess Iāll have a drink because Iām boredā consumption, which has started more often than not to impact my sleep and turn into a next morning headache. Clearly my body is sending me a message that I need to cut back a bit.
My husband couldnāt drink for a few months and discovered Athletic non alcoholic beer and really likes it. He usually has one every night and then maybe a small glass of wine if we have chicken or pasta for dinner or one real beer with Mexican food. Iāve been adding fizzy water to my wine for years so drinking a small amount of alcohol but watered down content.
My norm is to go have a couple of glasses at the wine bar around the cornerā¦often with heavy apps.
I havent been there since before the holidays, though, and only a glass of wine and a bourbon on Christmas.
My big reenactment is coming up in a couple of week, so Iām sure there will be a few tipples there. Music, friends, and a campfireā¦and I will neither confirm nor deny the possibility of some 'shine.

Any day/night not consuming alcohol is good for oneās health. I think we can all agree on that.
I am surprised to see how much any more than a glass messes up my sleep, according to my watch.
I mean I sleep like a baby most nights (and knowing a lot of insomniacs I know how to shuddup about that), but I just donāt like how sluggish I feel the next day if I have more than 1-2 drinks. Meh.
I didnāt miss it the last 3-4 weeks, but today started with beers at dinner, a coupla Kir Royal twists at a bar, and now a proper martini nightcap. Weāll see how I feel tomorrow ![]()
Even one glass or one cocktail messes with my sleep these days. I am guessing I had 3 glasses of wine and 5 cocktails in 2025. 2 glasses of red on one of the occasions.
When one drinks that occasionally, it might be easier to pinpoint the exact effects on that person.
FWIW, I feel fabulous today :-), but I will likely stick to a small glass of red with dinner tonight & forgo any hard liquor.
I donāt know how I feel about nonalcoholic cocktails. Have tried a few on occasion and theyāve never quite hit the spot. Nonalcoholic bar, even more soā¦Iām not sure I entirely see the point. But just saw this article and would totally check this place out:
I like some mocktails such as virgin mojitos, piƱa coladas, and frozen lime daiquiris, and virgin Caesars,
I have not enjoyed virgin Old Fashioneds. I donāt like Negronis so I havenāt tried any virgin Negronis.
I donāt really like the non-alcoholic spirits that I have tried. I donāt like them enough to order cocktails made with them.
One canned non-alcoholic mojito I tried was awful.
I do like Negronis, and a company in Brooklyn ā St Agrestis ā makes a very good N/A one called Phony Negroni. (As well as superlative alcoholic versions of both Campari-like and Aperol-like things.) But for me drinking an N/A cocktail of that sort is kind of like having a soda: Sugar delivery, with no real side benefit. Maybe I need to try a cannabis version ![]()
Agreed that an N/A pina colada can be fun on occasion. And definitely the N/A Caesar. Tomato juice is always nice and the vodka is definitely not necessary.
In Canada, spicy Clamato and regular Clamato come in cans and bottles. Clamato on ice has become a common non alcoholic drink option to have on Air Canada or the trains. (VIA, our equivalent to Amtrak).
Nice thing about Virgin Caesars at a bar, with the celery stalk or a pickled green bean stuck in it, is that they look like cocktails, unlike a 32 ounce soda pop, so if there is any pressure to drink, the non-drinkerās drink doesnāt stick out like a sore thumb.
