My Dry January has gotten all wet

I ate a gummy a few months back and sat down to read until it kicked in. After 20 minutes I noticed that my E Reader was diagramming (parsing?) the sentences and referencing previous related passages with lightly glowing highlights.
At that point I realized that my E Reader pages were not 3 dimensional and that the gummy had kicked in.
It was great while it lasted though.

How I wish edibles affected me. Would be much safer/healthier than vaping/combustion.

Gummies don’t count.

To me they do. I’ve only ever had gummies (can’t smoke anything), and they made me realize that I just don’t like weed.

I am guessing she means the lack of similar health issues comparing gummies to booze.

Ok, but they aren’t alcohol, so a person isn’t breaking dry January rules by having them.

My January is best described as damp. I’m allowing myself one drink per day, along with eating clean (and less) and reacquainting myself with the gym. Somewhat curiously, it’s not been every day I’ve imbibed. And shockingly, I haven’t missed it much.

I’ve not had a drink more nights than I have, and I don’t miss it, either. Sleeping fantastically well, too.

Ah, got it.

Since this thread started, my life has changed a LOT.

Ive had a couple of glasses of wine this year, with friends, with dinner.

Not a cocktail yet, but ive tasted a few homemade liqueurs.

I don’t feel the need to have any more.

I still like the conviviality of our fav brewpub and social fraternity–which, for good or ill, revolves around drinking–so A pint or A cocktail when we’re there is in the health ā€œbudgetā€.

What I hope is gone is the unthinking repetition.

My sleep hasn’t improved, but maybe it’s attributable to withdrawal. I’ve certainly been getting enough exercise.

In a (failed) attempt to lose weight many moons ago, I cut down drinking from 5 nights/week to 1-2 nights.

Didn’t lose a single pound (I’m speshul like that ), but my IBS all but disappeared.

I’m doing it for the third year in a row, but got started two days late since I was on vacation through the 2d, and well… vacation. I generally don’t drink Sunday through Thursday anyway.

Need help staying ā€˜dry’ in January? These festivals can help : Shots - Health News https://www.npr.org/sections/shots-health-news/2025/01/09/nx-s1-5251653/looking-to-have-fun-without-alcohol-this-guy-has-ideas-that-may-help

I drank at several of Derek Brown’s bars back in the day.

Thank goodness I never resolved to stay dry this month :cocktail:

Prosit!

I didn’t make any specific plans either. All you can do is all you can do!

Don’t do things for just one month but for years have added sparkling water to my wine. It’s a full glass but only 1/2 the actual alcohol. I get my wine at Trader Joe’s so no worries I’m not watering down a $30 bottle of wine (more like 10.99 Josh Sauvignon blanc). My husband just had a scary health issue and can’t drink any alcohol for the foreseeable future. We have some Heineken 0.0 being delivered with our groceries today. He had some the other night and gave it a thumbs up.

Run the Athletic flavors by him…

Wahine frequently adds either tapwater or a few ice cubes to her white wine. She doesn’t mind the dilution.

I drink TPSTOW, whether I imbibe or not, and often add bubbly to my wine. Spritzers are where it’s at
