My supermarket had no Plochman’s branded mustard but I did pick up a 9oz. jar of Kosciusko Spicy Brown Mustard. It does contain small grains but looks different from the Plochman’s Stone Ground picture posted above.
I make Chinese hot mustard with Penzy’s ground seeds. Amazingly good mustard. Simple to make. I love it on a dog.
Plochman and Kosciusko are made by the same company which is now owned by the (Swiss) Haco Group.
I have a different answer now. I bought some Maille Dijon mustard (recipe like 5 million years old (okay, joking, more like 200 years old)) and this stuff sucks on its own, but still somehow is now my favorite with salty dogs, sausages and the like.
I can’t figure it out - I do NOT like the flavor of this stuff by itself. It’s got a weird, “off” flavor. But it’s great with dogs and sausages.
Go figure.
Try Roland.
The Kosciusko’s is a good mustard but too hot for hot dogs IMHO. I’m going to intensify me search for Ba Tampte Mustard as I think it is close to my standard Nathan’s. Both are more yellow than brown.
Lately, I’m digging Penzey’s chinese hot mustard. Easy to make, and really has the bite I love. I like Kosciusko, too, and tink it’s more brat than dog mustard. Kishka kaszana loves Kosciusko.
Thanks for weighing in
I’m surprised no one mentioned Raye’s mustard.
