Did they serve shrimp with it? I know that’s hit or miss. I’m a big fan of that dish.
@joonjoon I don’t think I’ve ever had the fish tacos. I don’t get them much in nj. The only time I ever eat there is when some vendors buy us lunch. Next time I’ll see if I can get some.
@VikingKaj I went to Charley’s today in Long branch with a vendor, after we gave up on trying to get a spot at pier village. He wanted to see some beach “scenery” so we tried. They have Mahi tacos with a honey cilantro slaw, avocado and lime dressing I believe for 18. I should probably have tried them but I opted for the blackend chicken sandwich with blue cheese…surprisingly a pretty good sandwich with a load of tasty gooey melted bluecheese. I haven’t been there in years but I want to now try their “black and blue” burger after seeing how they loaded up that blackend chicken. This was a sauce and not just a few half ass melted crumbles. I enoyed it with two harpoon IPA
Thanks but I’m looking for Baha style with cabbage, white sauce and lime, and either grilled or fresh fried filets with maybe a squeeze of lime and little shot of Mr zippy.
The white sauce btw is super easy to make. I knew a guy from Rubio’s in San Diego. All it is is sour cream (or crema Mexicana), mayo, lime juice and water.
I would have to say the best fish tacos in San Diego are at Point Loma seafood:

Two shrimp, also spiced pork, a quarter chicken, 3 large ribs, and a couple of pieces of chorizo, as well as grilled onions, grilled cactus, two large grilled jalapenos, and pico de gallo.
I’m curious how much chicken and ribs are on the chicken and ribs combo. Does anyone know?
I don’t know. I always get the half bird or rib plate and have never ordered the combo. On the mixed grill they give me guacamole sometimes, and sometimes I get shrimp. It’s not too consistent but it is a good dish.
Is the BBQ place near Cliffwood still open? It’s the one maybe an 8th mile past the a&p heading north on 35?
I’m assuming you mean Xena’s, north of where the A&P used to be, back when there were A&Ps. Google lists it as “prermanently closed”. Given its low Yelp rating, and poor location, I’m not surprised.
Holy shit, just got a couple MONSTROUS quesadillas from El Sierra in asbury. I have never gotten so much food for so little. Each was just 4 bucks. Look at all this glory.
For 8 bucks I have another strong contender…AL pastor burrito from papagallos. This is a heavy-duty mexican dish. It’s got some serious weight. I think this is papgallos or maybe buenaventura…I have random food pics on my phone. It’s like eating a football of Mexican goodness.
Like we used to say in college, it ain’t good Mexican unless they have menudo on the menu, a set of long horns and a big ass sombrero behind the bar, and a spring is poking through the red leatherette of the booth to tickle your ass.
Most of the above qualify. Take your phone if your high school Spanish is rusty.
