How awful. I’m so sorry.
Wow. I can’t even fathom.
I wish McDonald’s offered a bacon Filet=O-Fish.
I think it’s probably possible to add bacon at the terminals, if ordering one’s own Filet o’Fish.
I was driving down I-5 and stopped for gas with a McDonald’s so figured I’d get a hamburger and fries. When I walked in there were three people standing in line but no cashier. Then a staffer walks in and says all orders are taken at the kiosk. No other option.
At that point I said nope. I’m not going to make an issue about the food…but I won’t stand in line for quick bite at a kiosk, for a convenient quick meal …and then I scanned the prices and it was a double nope. I left.
No use arguing about the food. It is what it is. Traveling is usually the only time I’ll eat McDonald’s (they are everywhere and consistent) but if it becomes a hassle or slow…then what’s the point? And with the rise in prices, it makes no sense to me.
I’m not against kiosks, I use them at other places…but all the other places have at least one staffer taking orders…because it actually makes things faster for everyone. Non tech savvy people can clog the kiosk lines and sometimes (especially at a new place) you just want to order to a person because you have questions and just want to get in and out.
McDonald’s use to be fast, reasonably prices and convenient. That’s how they sold so many burgers. I won’t rule out McDs but not inclined to think it’ll be fast, convenient or reasonable.
So I ended up making a stop an hour or so later and found an indie mom and pop taco joint, staffed by two. Food looked great but that created questions, so I asked. They answered and I was out of ther in 5 minutes….and the food was excellent, and reasonably priced.
I actually felt a little sorry for the one checker in a store with a few kiosks and what seemed like dozens of young people. I was wondering what would happen if folks get disruptive. Fortunately most young people remain respectful in the presence of us OGs.
Yeah the new model has pitfalls. I think you need at least two staffers at the front…because of rushes and weirdness. Of course the three people in line were “old”. Youngster would go right to kiosk.
It’s a tough business, in spite of its brand name and business method advantages. We understand that to qualify for a franchise, the would-be owner not only must be liquid well into six figures, but also must be able to invest $1.3 to 2.5 million after paying a fee of 45K – all to gain the prospect of realising maybe 150K/yr. Given these forbidding numbers, we’d think the typical franchisee is a real nut-and-bolts type and likely operates more than location, because Big Mac rewards hard-working franchisees with all the opportunities they can handle. Success breeds success.
I love Filet O Fish.
The McDo in France used to run specials with regional cheeses for limited time. I loved the Camembert and Raclette burgers and would actually go on purpose because they were tasty. (Yes, before my dairy intolerance raised its vile head).
I havent been in a McDonalds since last summer.
I went 2 years without having McD’s between Feb 2020 and Feb 2022.
Drove to the drive thru to order a quarter pounder with cheese after an argument that day in 2022.
Since Feb 2022, I’ve probably eaten at McD’s 10 times a year, which is more than I had been visiting between 1990 and 2020.
In 2022 and 2023, I was living 2 blocks from a 24 h McD’s, at a time when other restaurants were shortening their hours to close by 9 pm. I had a few late night meals from McD’s in 2022 and 2023. It was kind of funny, my go tos were Eataly l, which closes at 10 pm, or the 24 h McD’s when I needed dinner between 9 pm and 10 pm.
Some days I just order coffee.
I probably average 5 McMuffins or breakfasts a year and 5 burgers or limited time non breakfast sandwich specials a year.
I have been really happy with my local McD’s lately I’ve had a couple disappointing drive thru meals from Wendy’s and Burger King over the past year, so that’s given McD’s more business.
I’m a sucker for limited time offers, but smoky maple sauce is not speaking to me, so I’ll give the current specials a pass.
See No. 10 for the beverage menu:
I remember having a beer and fries with MAYO(a game changer for me)in Amsterdam many, many years ago. Not sure why we can’t have nice things like that here in North America
I always put mayo (and ketchup) on my burgers. It’s the European way.
