McDonald's in General

I was strictly “slam.” Good at it, though. Got a hard head.

Well, I broke my foot in class once … :eyes:

No pirouetting in class! Natural consequences.

Be careful of custom orders at McDo. Husband and I recently asked for extra tartar sauce on the filet-o-fish and were charged $.60 extra each! An expensive tablespoon.

Heck, that’s normal 24/7/12months in San Francisco!

… trying to jump as far as the guy next to me while simultaneously turning in the air. Spoiler: not a good idea. You’ll end up with what is a fairly common basketball fracture.

I lived near Stanford south of SF for 10 years, minus the two I lived in Spain. Climate of Palo Alto is quite different from SF, or at least was during the 1980s. In Palo Alto area, my favorite saying was “on any given day, whatever month, you will see someone wearing shorts, and someone wearing a down “puffer” jacket standing very close to each other. And on most days, you will see one person, or several people wearing both shorts and a down “puffer” jacket.”

I’ve noticed as a cold weather person, I never see folks down south ever do the sweatshirt/shorts combo, so popular in the upper MW. Last time I was in Utah, it got down to 40 f at night, and they looked at me like I had three heads when I came out with my hoody/shorts fashion.

In Florida its common to see someone wearing a fleece hoodie, jeans, complaining that its 65F…wearing bare feet and flip flops. If its cooler than that expect socks with flip flops

I moved to Miami from Maryland in February of 1988 and laughed out loud when I saw locals in winter coats when the temperatures were in the low 60’s.

10 months later I was doing the same thing.

It is amazing what consistently high temperatures will do to your sense of what an acceptably warm temp is.

And you can usually guess when someone moved to Florida because they wear the last warm coat they bought before they moves. You see some pretty crazy vintage coats.

When I moved back to Maryland after college in Chicago, it took a few years for me to put on a winter coat. Nothing like waking up on a Chicago morn and having the clock radio tell you that the wind chill was -56. And these were the days before down outerwear. :joy:.

I remember walking downtown Chicago and there were chains to one side of the sidewalk. A local told me they were there for when there was a storm off the lake. Pedestrians just hung on and kept walking.
Not sure if that was true but i enjoyed the picture it conjured in my mind.

Just last winter we had a student who was here from Mozambique. Lucky enough, when we went to visit schools in Milwaukee, we got a blast of lake effect snow. That girl was white knuckle passengerin’. “Is it safe to drive in this?” I said " you don’t see anyone pulling off do you?" Big heavy snowflakes just splattin’ on the window. Good road trip.

I tried a bacon, egg and cheese McGriddle today. I don’t remember if I tried one before. I’ll stick to the Egg McMuffins moving forward.

There’s a limited time Egg McMuffin made with sausage and double bacon. I can’t do that much salt. :joy:

The Canadian Bacon, Egg and Cheese McGriddle has 400 calories, FWIW.

I take it you are not talking about McDonalds Bakers in Glasgow. I liked their pineapple tartlet. One thinks pineapple in Glasgow? Think the British Empire, and the river Clyde the second biggest British port. Lots of connections to the British Caribbean. The port is the reason Britain has cane sugar while the EU mostly eats beet sugar. I went to McDonalds Bakers on a food tour run by Glasgow Food Tours: https://www.glasgowfoodtours.com/

For more than a year my CASA kiddo and I enjoyed weekly tacos, as well as the proprietor, at a place in Davis, California . Kiddo gets moved to Sacramento and announces MacDonald’s is now his favorite! :grimacing:

Not only is there no kindly proprietor, I also have to struggle with a kiosk surrounded by unruly teenagers and an unfamiliar menu. Thank goodness I didn’t have to enter my pin, and thank you to the kind young man who reminded the others there was a lady and children present! They raised you right!

Anyway, I hereby withdraw my forks and knives for the filet o fish. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

There was table service!

My first food order at McDonald’s in 2025:
I tried the Sweet Chili McWrap with crispy chicken.
$8.99 CAD.

The crispy chicken was fine. I threw out part of the wrap. I will stick to chicken sandwiches on a bun or nuggets in the future. I probably won’t order it again.

i also had ordered a Quarter Pounder with cheese, which was good one.

The McWrap is 250 grams vs the QP being 172 grams. Let me do the calorie per gram math. Be right back.

I was surprised that the QP with Cheese contains less of the DV % for salt.
The Quarter Pounder with Cheese has more protein than fat.
The Quarter Pounder with cheese is giving 2.5 calories per gram and 3.84 mg of sodium per gram.

The Crispy Chicken Sweet Chili McWrap. The breading and sauce add up.

The Crispy Chicken McWrap is providing 2.36 calories per gram, 4.12 mg sodium per gram.

The Crispy Chicken Sweet McWrap is a higher fat sandwich than the QP with cheese that has 2 slices of cheese, even when mass is taken into consideration.

I’m fairly certain that any McDonald’s-related thoughts I’ll have going forward will include this:

This is/was the second closest location of the chain to my home.
