Mayo: love it or hate it?

Def not Susie Essman.

I was a Seventeen subscriber in the late '70s and I recall a mayo + soy sauce mixture that you were to use just as you described. My sister and I did it a few times - probably after using the lemon juice to lighten. Hard to get rid of the smell, IIRC. I have no idea what the soy sauce was supposed to do :woman_shrugging:

Hair umami? Now I’m remembering Body on Tap and Yucca Dew.

I grew up absolutely HATING mayo because, as a kid, I went to a birthday party where I was served mayo sandwiches (yes, really), and they tasted awful as the mayo was off, but I had to force it down to not offend the hostess.

I’m okay with it now (when not spoiled ), but it’s not something I go out of my way for. Not crazy about vegenaise.

The other night, Sunshine asked for Mayo Cheese Chicken thighs. I’ve made this dish a few times for her. She told me its her new favorite recipe for chicken thighs. Sadly, I had no thighs in the freezer. I’ll watch for them to go on sale.

Those look really good!

Thank you… Its a fairly simple recipe of Mayo, garlic powder and shredded cheese (mixed together) and slathered onto a boneless chicken thigh. I don’t remember where I read the original recipe, but Sunshine and I prefer the garlic powder over the spicing that was mentioned in the original recipe.

I use a small foil lined baking sheet as it does get a bit messy during the cooking process. 400(F) until the chicken hits 165(F) internal (about 20-25) minutes.

I bought the 64-oz jar of mayo from Sam’s recently and when I saw the expiration date thought, “Challenge accepted.”

I can always make a chocolate cake if it gets tight. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

We use a lot more mayo in the summer - hopefully you’ll get through it!

Weak.

11/22/24? That’s more than 6 months from today (5/9/24).

I could dust that off in a week, or less.

Mayo baths are the best!

There’s tomato season between now and then - no problem at all!

I’m thinking the challenge would be to make it last. And by that I mean last until you can find it again.

Duke’s is everywhere now thanks to Walmart/Sam’s.
I can even find it here in Southern Oregon, as far from the south as one can get.

Yep here in KS/MO too, as well as Kewpie. And thanks to Yuengling’s westward expansion I have little to complain about. But I’ll find something.

We get Duke’s and Kewpie here in Austin as well. If you run into any trouble polishing it off, a loaf of white bread mayonnaise sandwiches is a fine snack. If there’s is still some left, grab a sleeve of saltines.
