It’s Pączki Day in Poland today, on Fat Thursday, in case anyone needs a reason to enjoy a Pączki, donut or krapfen today.

Pączki Day in Canada and the States is typically celebrated on Fat Tue, next Tue.

It’s Cheesefare Week for Orthodox Christians this week.
I picked up some Syrniki from a local Ukrainian restaurant, Wow Pierogies.

Pączki for breakfast today, which we meant to eat yesterday when we picked them up. Prune butter (lekvar) filling for me. Bavarian cream filling for my husband.

Unlike Hawaiian Malasadas,

Azorean Malassadas don’t resemble a Pączki, Berliner, Bismarck, Krapfen, or filled donut.

I understand that malassadas from the Azores are made for Carnival.

I didn’t see any Azorean Malassadas at the 2 Portuguese bakeries I visited this weekend.

I decided to buy a Bola de Berlim instead, Portugal’s Berliner, filled with custard.

The Croatians and Serbs call their filled donuts Krafne or Krofne. The Croatian Krafne/Krofne closely resembles Austrian Krapfen.

I bought some ribs and Italian sausage today. I plan to make a Lasagne tomorrow.

This is my take on a Lasagna di Carnevale for Fat Tue, based on several recipes.

And Italian ribs with fennel, rosemary, sage, pepper, and lemon.
