Lunch 2024

I rarely buy any commercial soups. The only ones we get are from TJ’s: creamy tomato, and roasted red pepper. Both reliably good.

I don’t buy many canned soups anymore. They’re just not fabulous. Those Pepperidge Farm ones were, though.

These come in cartons, not cans.

Campell’s had some “exotic” ones that came in pouches a few years ago. I liked the coconut curry one. They’re discontinued, of course.

I tend not to buy soups either since they are so easy to make and homemade soups are healthier. If I ever buy soup, it’s usually something I can’t make myself. The grocery stores where I live carry Soup’s On brand that used to make a really good hot and sour soup but they don’t seem to make it anymore. I can find their soups everywhere but not the one I like :frowning:

I make my own chicken noodle soup (usually only when someone in the household is sick), and I make a pretty mean tomato soup — especially in season. But when my PIC is feeling under the weather, he really likes both of the soups I mentioned for an easy, low-key meal.

Another ridic late lunch after pickle-balling (1:3 :frowning:) & grocery shopping: a good friend’s sourdough toasted, drizzled generously with olive oil (more generously than I had planned ), topped with s&p’d FM tomatoes, each slice topped with a blob of stracciatella & a tiny basil leaf from the second basil plant I bought that is about to die.

It was far less messy to eat than anticipated :yum:

No worries, it was educating!

Ages ago, PF’s black bean soup was a family favorite. Like in the late 60’s.

I was hoping to attend our director’s send off breakfast today but as misfortune would have it, I came home to a small flood yesterday afternoon. Water was running down a bedroom wall and collecting on the floor. So I messaged my supervisor this morning to inform her I would be absent today then tried reaching our super. He’s really efficient and pleasant to deal with but my apartment building was bought by another property management company recently and communication isn’t their forte. So I basically have to call/email them and hope someone gets back to me eventually. They finally dispatched the super who informed me he will investigate further then got a call from the rental office informing him the tenant in the unit below me was also reporting a small flood in their unit and in the same spot. So this is my long-winded post to say I am lunching on a cauliflower salad at home today

It’s fixed already! I live on the top floor of an apartment building so the super went up to the roof to see if anything is awry. Apparently he found some caulking that needs to be re-caulked so he fixed it! Now I can enjoy the rest of the day :woman_cartwheeling:

Frittata today, sautéed mushrooms, onions, cubed ham , garlic, a generous cup of fideos with peas , warmed up , added 4 scoops of ricotta along with grated Parmesan.Five eggs and a little milk poured over and let cook gently covered. Grated a little more Parmesan and slivered basil and called it done.

Take cuttings and put them in a glass of water. They grow roots

I had a scallion in a glass of water and a basil leaf dropped into the water. Several days later, I went to remove it, surprised that it was still green. The single leaf had started growing roots.

I keep scallion roots all the time, despite the pestilence that is the water (if you don’t change it often). They grow 10" seemingly over night :exploding_head:

Turns out I was correct on this lunch choice for the group. Neighbors inhaled the pork tenderloin. So easy or a group meal.

Popped into my local Costco for a roasted bag o’ chicken and a tray of fresh pears. Already made stock with the bones and had some breast meat, sliced pears and heated a few of the Lidl’s frozen latke for lunch.

TJ’s corn burrata ravioli with sautéed mushrooms. onions, FM corn and tomatoes, topped with stracciatella also from TJ.
Dessert was half of a small 3 berry galette with sour cream on the side. Tonight we will have the remaining galette with ice cream😋
