Lunch 2024

Lovely grilled trout & mackerel filets with accoutrements from our favorite Bavarian fish griller. He sets up at various local markets, but Fridays he’s in walking distance.

He was almost as happy to see us as we were to see him

Lowering the collective culinary IQ of HO once again, I present:

GOTTA CLEAR OUT THE FRIDGE/FREEZER, chili dog edition.

I love chili dogs almost as much as life itself. So I had a wee bit of chili that I had made, plus a couple of frozen kosher dogs. What I didn’t have were buns — or any substitute bready conveyance. So Beanie Weenie with chili instead of baked beans. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Why so much onion, you ask? BECAUSE VIDALIAS ()… you can never have too much or too many!

Trofie pasta with lotsa’ good things! Deeply browned diced onion and cabbage, 3 fat anchovies, peperoncino, black pepper, , garlic, deglazed with a little Dolin vermouth. Added julienned sorrel and a little Nduja , freshly grated Parmesan. This ugly duckling turned into a swan!

Dessert was a slice of sponge cake with rhubarb/Amarena cherry jam.

Thinking of a tuna melt today…:fish:

There was a cafe in the now-demolished White Flint Mall in Bethesda, which featured a very fancy tuna melt which they dubbed the Ike and Tina Tuna. (this was in the late ‘70s/early 80s, before their breakup). It was a favorite of my mom’s. One day I’ll have to expand my horizons to include tuna and cheese. After all, I do love a fillet-o-fish.

But whenever I read “tuna melt” that name pops into my mind.

That’s a cute story. I just settled with tuna salad on sliced sourdough.

Shrimp and grits. The grits got a healthy dose of Cougar Gold cheese. The shrimp got bacon and lots of hot sauce!

Scrumptious!

Chicken salad with wasabi kewpie and Duke’s mayo, chives, parsley, celery.
Avocado with Grillo’s pickled hot salsa.

Another sponge cake that was auditioning for tomorrow, but good as it is, I decided on something else. This had mandarincello liberally sprinkled on the cake along with Clementine cranberry jam.

Even though it’s warming up outside, it’s overcast and dreary so it’s a good day for lentil soup.

Double smash burger with cheese and fries with the fam. Juicy and that crust was crazy. A bit spendy, but worth it.

After yesterday’s carb overload, tuna on tomato with side salad was in order. Tuna was made with capers/hot pepperoncini/pickled red onion/mayo and green Tabasco.
