Irish Soda Bread with coarse whole wheat…this has become our favorite bread for smoked salmon. And since it is simple to make and quick to bake, it has becomes a spur of the moment bread.

Today we had it with a mustard dill sauce, most of the onions/capers are being secured under the salmon.

Were we separated at birth? I also put most of the capers and shallots beneath the salmon! It may not be as purtty to look at, but yer not losing all the capers lifting the concoction to your mouth - and the flavors are the same

It’s taco Friday, but I shan’t bore ya with the same ole same ole delicious pics of Cajun shrimp tacos

The 3rd taco was dealer’s choice, i.e. my PIC’s pick if you will, as he was picking them up  en route home from the salon. Brisket. Excellent choice.

It took me a long time to stop putting the accompaniments on top and have to deal with them rolling around! I had made the mustard dill sauce for gravlax but it’s equal,y good with smoked salmon.

For the first time since 2008, I went to a Las Vegas hotel buffet. I didn’t want to go because after having lost 89 lbs in 11 months (circa 2010〜2011), I can never get my (or anyone’s!) money’s worth.

However, my sister had 2 free buffet comps at the Palms Hotel & Casino’s “A.Y.C.E. Buffet” (not a very original name!)

I told my sister I couldn’t eat much and because she wasn’t paying for it, she didn’t mind.

I had 3 plates this size (salad plates?) and one even smaller plate with 5 petit-four sized desserts.

I only took a photo of this plate…which is good because it was the best! Roasted brussels sprouts, falafel with tzatziki, toasted pita bread and baba ganoush. I could have made a meal just out of these things!

On other plates I also had smoked sausage, smoked salmon, a mini bagel, broccoli salad, a quite small steak (6 oz uncooked…and the least enjoyable part of the meal) and the aforementioned desserts…with great decaf coffee to drink. At the end of the meal, I initially felt overly full, but that soon subsided and I felt just full enough.

I got some really good asparagus on sale yesterday for 3 lbs for $1.00 and tonight’s dinner will be some of that with fresh lemon juice on it.

ETA: There WILL BE a longish walk taken tonight after it begins to cool down (it’s 87°F now at 3:37 PM).

I think they’ve become a geezer menu option; not trendy enough at all, which is a shame, because as a sandwich they are classic.

As much as I love the idea of a brunch buffet, I never seem to get my money’s worth. We did the famous brunch at the … Wynn (?) I can’t even remember right now, this was in 2009.

It was overwhelming, and we chose high price items like crab and other seafood, but I just can’t eat a lot at that time of day.
