A Popeyes fish sandwich, much better this time than a couple of weeks ago. This one didn’t seem to have been sitting around for very long.
Lunch today was a boneless skinless chicken breast brushed with evoo, garlic and dried oregano. Cooked en papillote with green beans and cherry tomatoes.
A few chonks of pork belly fried up in the air fryer. Our HK buddy came back from the city on Sunday, and I’d asked him to come back with either duck or pork belly. #friendsrock
Skipping lunch since I sampled a few of these empanadas that I filled and fried. They’re inspired by Venezuelan pabellón, which is rice, shredded beef, black beans, and fried sweet plantains. No rice and no plantains (though I considered it lol), but beef and beans and Spanish queso Iberico since it seemed a better substitute for something like queso duro than any options I could think of that are available to me.
I fried them off to freeze and reheat in the oven because the corn dough fries better when fresh (it puffs up from steam) than if frozen, and the raw dough is also prone to cracking when frozen.
I prefer a classic Colombian filling of beef and potatoes, but these are pretty good and I wanted to try them.
OMG. That looks so good! I’d need a nap after that plate, tho
It’s been THREE weeks since I visited my taco purveyor* for my Friday Cajun shrimp taco fix! Might as well get a flight of all shrimp tacos, then, topped with his homemade, nuclear berry hot sauce
*He wouldn’t even let me pay for lunch today
Saw these gorgeous, rare and exotic ’ Top Shell Spotted Whelks ’ from Freshway Foodmart, Markham.
Decided to buy some and make one of Hong Kong’s most popular street food - " Poached Sea Whelks with Hoisin Dipping sauce " …for TV watching/afternoon snack!
Delightfully chewy, crunchy, umami sweet and taste of the sea!
I’ve never had whelks. How do they compare to other … uh… slug-type creatures or mollusks?
Slightly tougher and chewier than Escargots. A touch fishy and saltier than the relatively neutral tasting Escargots.
A combo of cast-iron grilled Canadian ( Alberta? ) Prime Ribeye and NY Striploin. Finish off with butter, Garlic, Thyme and Maggi Sauce. Condiment of
Hot English Mustard.
I made chicken biryani using Shan biryani masala, used the recipe on the back of the box but halved more or less. Good flavor but I overcooked the rice, parboiled it too long.
Gotta make up for my severe calorie deficit from last night’s measly har gow “dinner,” and my oh so virtuous breakfast: a perfectly MR cheeborger (chuck & brisket mix) atop shredded iceberg atop a verrry thick slice of red onion atop Duke’s & Heinz atop Aldi’s thin slice seedtastic sammich bread.
That should tide me over until dinner
The usual move when little bits of various things are in the fridge. Remembered I had a bit of the pork belly I cured so that went in, too.
I rarely post lunch, but today’s was easy and tasty:
roasted diced seasoned butternut squash, warmed leftover brown rice, TJ’s kale pesto, kale, toasted hazelnuts, burrata, and cucumbers. Mostly TJ’s ingredients (finally they stocked burrata @linguafood). Yummz.
A bit too much for one portion.
I’ve seen the burrata back at Aldi lately, too. Have you had any luck finding it there? I think it’s just a smidgen cheaper than TJ’s, and similar quality.
Some frozen xlb from Costco that are pretty good, and homemade fettuccine with ginger scallion sauce and chili oil.
OMG
(is a complete sentence)
