Lunch 2024

Today’s lunch is a less blurry version of yesterday’s cabbage salad.

Thai omelet with imitation crab, rice, and a cucumber and tomato salad. Used the last of my precious Thai sriracha to top the omelet. I like the mild Thai sriracha way more than the more famous spicy variety.:sob:

2 local eggs scrambled over king oyster shrooms and half a poblano pepper fried in bacon fat. Lovely.

Red lentil soup with roasted green beans. Today is fridge clean out day. I am having this over some leftover jasmine rice with peas. Hopefully this should feed me for the week.

Tortilla Bowl salad (h/t @ScottinPollock in another thread for posting the bowl making method).

I made a couple of small tortilla bowls - unfortunately I only had 6-inch (nominal) flour tortillas so the salads are pretty small, almost too small to work with.

Contents were layers of leftover “Italian” chicken shredded, shredded parm/provolone, dab of Ken’s ranch dressing, mixed greens (repeated above for 2nd layer) and topped with some tom slices and more cheese.

Turned out pretty tasty. My wife was pleasantly surprised I’d repurposed the leftover chicken in a salad, because I had been talking about just using it as taco meat.

After a seemingly endless fitting of crowns, a veddy late lunch of TJ’s roasted red pepper & tomato soup, and the leftover salad from last night.

The end of (a jar of) happiness :frowning:

But don’t worry, before that I had enough for a final toast

I love how the light reflects off the fish roe. The lighting is doing the roe the justice it deserves.

Thanks! Love eggs with feta.

I left Tokushima (on the island of Shikoku) for Kobe (on the main Japanese island of Honshu) yesterday and am staying in an Internet cafe. I’ve never stayed in one, but at least in terms of this one, it isn’t as bad as I was expecting.

Kobe is one of Japan’s most international cities and has quite a few bakeries. A few of them are touted as being “German” bakeries, so I sought one out for lunch today.

I chose “Köln”, not far from Kobe’s main train station, Sannomiya. As I hadn’t had breakfast, I bought quite a lot!

In the 2nd photo, from top left, a honey cheese roll, a cheddar and cream cheese roll and a raspberry tart. They were good, but of these three, I would say only the tart was “great”.

And the 3rd photo shows what was labeled as a “pomme cake”. Indeed, apples were the main ingredient, but it had custard and what I think was adzuki (red bean) paste. This was quite good and rather heavy. I can’t imagine I’ll have much of an appetite for dinner! I’m no expert on German bakeries, but when I think of other German bakeries that I’ve been to elsewhere in Japan, this one seems a bit ersatz to me.

Today’s oddball Sunday omelet had mushrooms, asparagus, havarti, and avocado. And ramen.

Are all the “sparklies” on the toast a filter? Or au naturale?

In either event, looks yummy. Or like fishing bait. Either/or. The trout around here love them big eggs. LoL.

The sparkles are a filter, the light reflecting off the roe is au naturale.

Interesting birth control method, that
