Jürgen likes to add a “seasonal” twist. During asparagus season (May & June) he often adds a few heads of fresh green asparagus, in June & July there’s often a few nubs of chanterelles… that said, I don’t think the classic version/recipe even has herbs in it… maybe a little parsley cuz we throw that stuff in anything ;-D

My job includes a significant amount of fieldwork. So when I made an appointment that took me to Santa Barbara, I made sure it was a day that La Super Rica was open (i.e. not Tuesday or Wednesday). I showed up a few minutes prior to 12PM and was surprised and pleased to see that only 4 people were in line ahead of me. My order was the Super Rica Special, (roasted pasilla chile, cheese, marinated pork and tortillas) chile relleno with queso cream, and guacamole. Turned out to be a lot of food for just myself, but I managed.

I made my first sushi roll yesterday. I probably overfilled it slightly but luckily it has held together. It’s filled with cucumber, tamagoyaki, shiitake mushrooms, teriyaki salmon, caviar and seafood sticks. It’s really delicious and filling and I’m excited to make more using all sorts of different fillings.
I also had a bowl of perfectly ripe figs and Victoria plums which may be one of my most favourite fruits now. Way better than standard plums for me.
Taiwanese Shaved Ice with red beans, taro and grass jelly. Oh, and sweet condensed milk.
