Lunch 2020

The Bay Area is in lockdown for at least the next three weeks. I am fortunate enough to be able to work from home. Here’s a few lunches from the past week:

Freezer chicken and sausage gumbo with rice:

Soyrizo with eggs, refried beans, and some store bought tortillas:

Sous vide NY strip steak with Ranch Gordo Scarlet Runner beans, broccolini, and a soft boiled egg:

It all looks good, but what’s your technique for the eggs? That seems like an amazing balance of ideally firm white and runny yolks.

I cooked the egg in the water bath at 194f for 8 minutes following a recipe from the Joule app and then chilled it in ice water.

Aha!

My lunch is usually leftover from dinner. Quarantine starts today at noon, everybody who needs to go out needs to fill a form to justify. H has started to work from home yesterday. Tried to cook better lunch.

Leftover butternut leek soup
Butter grilled prawns, dried tomatoes ricotta raviolis

Mullet radish egg noodle soup with sardine broth

Sea bass with parsley sauce verte

Yum, that looks delicious!

OMG, I will be fat in 3 weeks time. Already feeling sluggish and it’s only been 4 days since my last physical activities. They announced last Friday most places would be shut down until April 6. I can’t swim or go to the gym until then, but I can still go for walks and biking.

Streets were half empty on Friday last week. Photos from last week:

The partner is working from home again this week. We are introverts and have no problem being alone for extended periods of time. We also have no shortage of food. But we are not used to eating big lunches during the week and eating them together at home.

There has been so much rain, rivers and streams are swollen.

Foot path between the row of rosewood and the river is now under water.

Still bare branches on the birch

A normally busy street, was pretty much empty last Friday.

The bike park outside my swimming pool was also near empty.

And I was the only one in the pool’s dressing room. An introvert’s dream!

The other half of lunch in previous post. No theme. Just chucked in a few things I had in the fridge. Pork shoulder, shiitake mushrooms, fresh turmeric, tofu.

Nice, I just picked up some corned beef since it was one of the few things left on the shelves. Did you cook it solo or a corned beef and cabbage combo?

LOL - I am a sandwich fan!

“Ethnic” lunches curtailed or at least slowed down as we “shelter”. Made at home, from left overs, curried turkey salad and “avocado mash” for lunch. Hope that’s a thing.

I’m thinking that number of crackers is excessive.
