Let's do a fish fry!

Yeah, “lake trout” certainly raised my eyebrows when I first saw it on a sign. No lake, no trout. WYPR had a clip about it, but it’s no longer online. Oh well, it’s Baltimore…

The Roost on Reisterstown Rd was known for its lake trout. The building used to be a Burger Chef, which I remember because my Mom would stop there after picking me up from Sunday School and get me a little hamburger. It’s right next to the Baltimore City Police Department NorthwesternDistrict headquarters.

And for reference

I’ve eaten fried fish with the tail — and bones — still attached, but never in a sandwich.

I’ve had fried sand dabs and walleye, but you’ve fried nova lox and smoked whitefish?

Interesting. What kind of batter did you use?

To clarify - these are fish I like but not fried except for the walleye. That was at The Custer Wolf in South Dakota, and they use a light breading.

Sand Dabs are also nice when they’re fried, in my experience.

I have not tried fried Lox yet, but I might.

I love Nova with a Shmear on a toasted poppyseed or sesame bagel at Barney Greengrass, taken to go, to eat in Central Park.

One of the best breakfasts I’ve had was at a place called the Green Lantern on Lake Waubesa near Madison WI. Fried Walleye and eggs.

Have only had Sand Dabs ala Meuniere.
