La Marzocco GS3 MP | Espresso Machine

Any espresso lovers have any experience with a La Marzocco espresso machine?

I am looking at the GS3 MP (pictured below).

Thank you.

No, but I wish I did! I have an old (1960s) Elektra Micro Casa a Leva. Being a spring loaded lever, it is easy to use, simple to maintain and repair (replacing old gaskets), and makes superb coffee. The LM you are looking at is considered the be all and end all of prosumer and commercial machines. When I worked downtown my favorite coffee place got one. The LM rep gave the baristas training. After the training, pretty fine shots became perfect, using Stumptown hairbender.

As Tim says, they are seen as the best machines by many. I hope to upgrade to a Linea Micra at some point.

One thing I like from my current machine - a Vibiemme Domobar single boiler - is that it is so compact and simple. In the morning I don’t want any fuss, just a quick espresso. The simplicity is what attracts me to the Linea Micra.

I’m still hoping Fellow Hound alarash will weigh in for you, He has deep experience with this type of machine, and maybe this brand…

Just to mess with everyone’s head, in this ultra rarified stratum it might be worth the time to check out Synesso and Slayer as well.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts.

We already made our purchase.

If the LM was what you purchased, congratulations. Enjoy your time in Espresso Nirvana.

It wasn’t for us.

It was a gift.

That is a gift that will be loved and treasured.

And, for others following this thread, don’t forget about KvdW :slightly_smiling_face:

Wait, is this the same crowd who howled about a $3,000 dedicated pizza/bread oven being too expensive?

We are that very crowd! As cool as they might be, a $3000 pizza oven, a duck press, a La Marzocco, and a 356 are just never going to be bought by me, but I will spring for morels, really good Burgundy or Bordeaux, or veal chops.

What’s your limit for a really good bottle? I find that once you pass the mid to high hundreds range there are rapidly diminishing returns. Especially considering I will soon piss it out.

I certainly wouldn’t spend that. However, this lavish gift just might get more “pulls” than there are days in a year. Can’t really say that about a $3k pizza oven or an $8k Pacojet, can we?

No one should be telling other people how to spend other people’s money.

I think you’re confusing people wondering why you dropped in to tell someone who started a thread specifically to ask for advice about a BGE they got for free to go buy a pizza oven with people having an issue with spending money.

Not really. Just observing human nature.

I have no idea. You can’t live on coffee.

Somebody is buying both products.

Everybody loves ‘premium’ as long as it fits their budget. Marketers make their bones on instilling the idea of ‘premium’ at certain price points.

Some people think a BGE is a stretch. Others wouldn’t be caught dead with one.

Funny how it works.

I can see going up near $200, but it would have to be very highly regarded and for a special occasion. I have been known to bottle age some Chateau Montelena, BV, Freemark Abbey, Ridge, and the like, even though I do not keep a lot of bottles on hand and can almost find great and very drinkable wine at Spec’s or Twin Liquors.

Well there were years when it SEEMED as if I were living on coffee!
