After the local Turkish breakfast place closed its doors for good a few months ago, I am super-duper-excited about this fabulous new addition to our town. Run by a Turkish family hailing from Izmir, it currently offers mostly pastries — the majority of them sweet (and you bet your sweet bippy we grabbed a few of those), but we had a great convo with the super-friendly owner about how much we love Turkish food, etc. He has plans to offer brunch/lunch and dinner in the future, and showed us what deliciousness is in store for us
The chef is apparently from Adana proper, so Adana kebab will be on the menu for sure. It’s like a dream come true
As for today, we picked up a selection of cookies (CC tahini & CC pistachio), pistachio kadaif & a couple of pistachio rolls, as well as an Anatolian cheese pastry the girl from Yalikavak recommended. When I told her my last trip to Turkey was in the early 90s and happened to be to her hometown she could barely believe it.
What a great addition to a food scene that is dominated by chains, burgers, wings & pizza.
Wonderful! Many of the items in your photos look similar to the baked goods sold locally here by a Kurdish family who own a cafe and bakery. They call the ‘filled savoury pastries’ - pogača. I love them. Mass produced pogača are sold by the bag in the freezer section of our local little Kurdish store.
The pistachio rolls were spectacular… but at $8 for two they had better be!
The CC cookies were also very good & not too sweet; the kadaif was a little too syrupy for me. We shared the Anatolian cheese pastry for lunch today, and it was really nice.
Went back earlier for MOAR 'stachio rollz & another pistachio CC cookie , and I was excited to see the tables already set with trays holding olive oil, red wine vinegar, and hot pepper flakes. Can’t be too long until Turkish brunch, lunch, and dinner will be served. It’s got such a nice, cozy atmosphere, too
