Ischia, Naples trip report

Roxlet!!

New freebie snack today. Consistency of a very light pecan sandy, but savory. I’m going to say almond is the nut, but not in any way sure. Anyone recognize this, or have any information on it/them? About the size and shape of a combo. I was a big fan.

I walked up and down the block at least 4 times today using google maps and still couldn’t find Drugstore. I really want to check this place out!

I’ve never seen these little nutty cookies. My mother’s family was from Salerno near Naples, and I recognize many of the things you’re eating from my life growing up. I haven’t been to Naples in too many years. You’re making me want to return asap! Are you solo on this trip?

These look delicious and I want to investigate, as I love nutty savory “cookies.” Possibly these? Without the sugar topping and maybe less sugar overall?

If they’re anything like the butter walnut cookies from Isgro’s Italian pastries sign me up :star_struck:. They’re not savory, tho.

Looks like you are having a wonderful time, and so glad you are there and not here right now - I am envious.

Also fabulous that you got to try a version of cassata there, which looks wonderful. The one made here in Ohio and Pennsylvania definitely has Sicilian roots, as that is where the vast majority of Italian immigrants to those areas came from in the late1880s-early 1900s. Custard instead of ricotta and strawberries instead of candied fruit because that was what was available to them at the time.

the website says 39 or 41 via santa maria di constantinopoli. Its mapped in the middle of the street. (??) His old resto/store stanza del gusto was across the street at 100. If you are at a hotel, I suggest you ask them about it. There is also a contact box on the website you could try or their phone number https://pomopop.com/ Maybe they do not have a brick and mortar location any more or maybe they have flown away after many years? there is at least 1 fairly recent review.

@LulusMom1 maybe they are Tocchetto / Tocchetti

(Could be Macoritti / mini Grissini but those have an airy texture)

Yes. LLD did a biking trip in Tenerife, and I am doing this trip to celebrate getting Lulu off to college.

These things weren’t sweet, but apart from that they make sense as what I was eating. Maybe there is a savory version.

Yeah, these were savory.

These were very light, almost melt in your mouth.

Wow! Lulu off to college! You turn around and look what happens. I’m jealous of this fantastic trip. Ischia is such a summer destination that I’m wondering what the vibe is in the fall. Sleepy, or still hopping?

Probably fairly sleepy by usual standards, but not dead by any means. And Naples feels very busy though I imagine it is crazy busy in season!

Spent yesterday up the hill visiting Vomero, Castel Sant Elmo, and San Martino. It is pretty up there, and nicely calm feeling after a few days in Naples. Dinner was back down the hill at a place I found on the web with some great write ups. I was underwhelmed. The menu was confusing to me - for some reason the bruschetta were listed beneath the pastas, so I asked if they were secondi somehow, and didn’t understand the answer (not his fault!). The menu was fairly meaty, which left me without many optIons. So I got bruschetta, listed as caramelized onion, anchovy, and whipped ricotta. This was pretty darned good, but the onion was pickled, not caramelized, which would have been even better (and which I will now try at home!). Next was pasta with tomatoes, olives, capers, basil - a dish I love. He warned me it was spicy, and I told him I love spice. It comes when I’m still eating my started. This is something that drives me crazy, and I don’t think I’ve ever had it happen in Italy before. But the saddest part was that it was the least spicy, most under seasoned, and over cooked version of this dish I have ever had. It’s a cute, tiny little place, and I had nigh hopes. I didn’t order a secondi after this because it just felt sad.

Those are yellow tomatoes, not garlic, which didn’t seem to be in the dish at all.

Trying a place recommended by my hotel tonight. More than just Italian food, as far as I can tell (they’re only on facebook, and I’m not). Had a good time in Pompeii today, and it might just be drink o’clock now.

What was the pasta dish called? Was it all’arrabbiata? Or a twist on puttanesca?

Sucks when one is promised heat and it’s not delivered. That view tho :star_struck:
