No, they didn’t use either of those words, but he definitely warned me about heat.
The view!!

popular on the web? what does that mean, exactly?
italians are mostly not at all big on spice. The place sounds a bit lame overall.
see if you can get some contorni (zucchine or eggplant scapece - fried or roasted and then dressed withvinegar, garlic and probably mint) or maybe some peperonata as a side.
hoping for some better food for you…
I did the whole “good restaurants near me” thing and it pooped up with lots of positive reviews. That’llteach me.
Diversion: How did Lulu, and her Mom, like Tenerife? I went to Canarias for first time last May and fell in love with Lanzarote…what’s the food scene like on Tenerrife, if you can bear to write more right now???
I want one of those tutti di tutti canni logos on a shirt!!!
Only Lulu’s dad (aka LLD) went to Tenerife. I took care of the dog and enjoyed the silence. Now his turn.
I would 100% buy that shirt!
As an aside @erica1, do a search on Tenerife here. @harters is our resident Tenerife expert who has contributed ample data points.
Now back to regularly scheduled programming.
I hear , not sure its true, that google is moving up restos that pay somehow now. I usually use the screen for high ratings these days. Tho italians have a hard time giving high ratings to places that are more expensive so you have to read the reviews…
Back to the wonderful regularly scheduled programming…and the issue of that shirt… If the powers align, I will investigate a pack them to be given out to our true HO-ers…YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!
I’ve already got my “MOLISE? Si existe!” t-shirt but received not a nod back in NY…as of yet!!!
Molise was part of Abruzzo until a few decades ago and there remains a bit of friendly back-and-forth…now THERE is a (tiny) area worth seeking out…
Yeah, always read the reviews. You can usually tell when the gripe is actually about cost or some run in with a person working there. Definitely possible that the low cost of the Santa Chiara place is why it has so many positive reviews- my whole meal with 2 glasses if wine was 25 euros. I would always rather pay more and have great food.
Very nice meal last night, and pretty different from what I’ve been having. Thanks to the hotel for recommending this place - Etto. The days have been warm (hot even) but when the sun goes down it gets too chilly for me to want to eat outside. So I sat alone inside for the first 30 minutes while the outside was hopping, but then the whole place started rocking. I started with eggplant Parmesan. It was delicious.
This was a fun meal, and I enjoyed it. Would definitely go back. Only two more dinners. I’m a little worried about this evening- I asked the hotel to book me at another spot I found on the web. I’ve been excited about it for a few days, but given how the last time worked out, I’m nervous. It’s called Sottocoperta Taverna di Mare. Gets 4.9 and 5 on google and TA, which seems … good?
Yesterday was Pompeii. Hard to capture the scope of Pompeii, at least for me. But look how vibrant that mosaic is after 2,000 years. It was incredible. Today will be churches.
I saw that was near you and might be good. I would give no credence whatsoever to TA at this point unless the reviews are from italians. Glad you had some good eggplant parmesan!
When Italians say “spicy” to me it usually means mild chili notes I may or may not taste.
Joining late but enjoying your reports.
It was fantastic eggplant Parmesan.
I’m mentally preparing myself for a rushed meal (something I don’t like), based on reviews.
I’m not seeing much pizza here @LulusMom1. Whats up with that
Whoa, thank you. I’m a fan.
I’m traveling solo, which doesn’t help.
It looks like a promising place - and frankly, you are travelling off season, it should not be rushed or crowded . One of my favorite dishes in that region is octopus or similar cooked “alla luciana” - the seafood is steamed/stewed in a tomatoey garlicy broth. Great to mop up with your bread. And it looks like they have very copious clams on thir clam spaghetti (I saw a stupid review complaining that the clams are small rather than large!) Hope it works out! Maybe try some of the more humble trattorie for your remaining? Maybe on your church day have trattoria lunch and a pizza dinner -a typical italian way of eating?
You could always bring the leftovers back to your hotel room.
Only if she has a fridge, which isn’t a given everywhere. We run into that issue while traveling, and it’s the two of us.
I’ve left pizza out all night and had it for breakfast! I’m perfectly fine
