My camera is set to take fairly large images, usually 3-4MB. I’ve been rescaling them before posting, down to around 700KB. Is this necessary? Does Discourse automatically scale down image when I upload them?
I don’t think you need to. The image I uploaded is 4272x2848 and the file size is 7.5Mb. The forum stores the image at 1920x1280 at 260Kb. The resizing/ rescaling is automatic.
For example, in this case, the system rescaled your image and stored it at 223kb.

Cool, thanks. That halibut photo is one I forgot to scale, and on my disk it’s 3.8MB. One less step to worry about.
