Hot Dogs!

Not at my branch, at least. They have chopped onions in those little plastic tubs, but no sauerkraut.

there’s a stand near me ( in mamaroneck n.y.) called Walter’s. they make a very unconventional (fairly mild) hot dog and it has exactly two toppings- ketchup (bleh) and a mustard with a little bit of relish, that’s it. The dogs and the buns are both cooked on the flat top griddle and slathered with some sort of butter/oil mix. They now can supply the dogs & mustard and you can make it at home. Not the same!, At the stand and from the flattop is the only way. Some ppl. swear by them. They are not like a ny style (sabrett/Nathan’s) dog and are pretty mild, but they are very good once you re-think how a hotdog should be.

I totally agree! The regular hot dogs are so much less tasty.

I know that Costco for a time made the Polish version available in the frozen section. I haven’t seen them recently, but neither have I been looking. But now I will!

Sam’s Club’s massive all beef hot dog & soft drink for $1.38. Hard to beat that lunch deal.

The Sam’s club food vendor where I live has slightly worse versions of every food item in the Costco food stand. The hot dog link is comparable but the bun is worse. The pizza is not as good and slightly smaller than Costco. Things may be the other way around in your neck of the woods.

Oh, the pizza is absolute garbage (they were handing out samples), and I agree about the hot dog bun - I find it too big and bready for the dog and usually toss half of it. Sadly, no Costco here so I can’t compare.

TBH I don’t expect gourmet quality anything from Sam’s Club. The draw is large amounts of stuff for little $$$.

That’s interesting. We’ve got a Costco but no Sam’s Clubs.
I don’t buy enough of anything to justify a membership anymore.

We only have one bc we got an offer we couldn’t refuse ($20/annual fee for booking a rental car :woman_shrugging:). They had great deals on sumo oranges I pretty much OD’d on while they were around, and the prices for meat & fruit are hard to beat. But I don’t know if we will continue for another year.

Also, gas is usually much cheaper than elsewhere

I know of someone who thinks it’s worth it just for gas savings.

Same here… I let my Sam’s Club membership lapse about 6 years ago. I don’t miss it.

The few things I was buying in bulk couldn’t justify the membership fee. Moreover, they closed the Sam’s Club that was fairly close to me, the next closest one was a trek to get to.

The blueberries and blackberries are bigger and better than what I find at Aldi and local grocery stores. I also like the jumbo shrimp and cage-free eggs. Everything else so far has been fairly comparable to Aldi but in larger quantities. We use our membership for cheap gas, mostly.

I could see that. I haven’t been driving enough lately to know whether it’s made much of a difference.

But there’s the occasional deal that’s hard to pass up - again, meat & fruit prices in particular, though I’ve so far shied away from buying their ginormous franken-rotissserie chicken for $5. I’m kinda freaked out by how large they are :scream:

We also got a nice set of glass containers as we are slowly phasing out plastic.

The blackberries are actually one of the reasons I go (besides the aforementioned sumos when in season, and they also sometimes have whole boxes of champagne mangos). I’ve not found the blueberries any bigger or better than the ones I can get at the local supermarket, even tho they are likely much cheaper at Sam’s. I’ve also picked up a big bag of Mission tortillas for tacos, and my PIC has bought t-shirts there, fashion maven that he is.

I get my shrimp at Aldi, and my eggs from a friend. Cage-free isn’t pasture-raised, btw.

Don’t forget tires. The tires may be a better bargain than the gas.

Yes, you’re right! Also, prescriptions. Ugh, Walton Family, you’ve sunk your claws into me.

Yep.

We all make our concessions :woman_shrugging:

Those breadsticks make for great french toast too.
