Holiday Baking 2025

The Sister Pie recipe looks like a variation on chess pie, with the cornmeal to thicken, whereas the ATK version seems like it has a really smooth custard.

I baked that pie a couple of years ago and honestly i wasnt impressed. The cornmeal gave it a gritty taste. Maybe my cornmeal wasnt fine enough.

I’m doing it on Monday! Had to reschedule so many dinners due to my never ending respiratory bug, some ended up being post Xmas…

May I suggest that you scale back the amount that you do, so as to not get even more sick. I’ve had to learn to do that.

And not run hard trying to catch up the first day you stsrt feeling better. I am so guilty of doing just that and my body usually smacks me upside the head and sends me back to bed for not listening.

Way too much “good-quality baked goods and rich food” almost makes me fondly remember coffee and cigarettes for Christmas breakfast :slightly_smiling_face:

The Best Mocha Babka - Soft, Buttery Chocolate Espresso Swirl Bread. Recipe is on Kyshkitchen.com and as Arina Kysh on Instagram. Its a big babka, baked in a 10"springform. I wondered how I was going to handle an 28" roll. Shaped it into a crescent and froze it for 10 minutes then straightened it to cut in half to braid. Fit the spring form exactly. Such a beauty.

I notice in the recipe she calls for avocado oil – do you know why? I’ve never used it, it seems unusual for pastry (?)
