FWIW I use avocado whenever veg oil is called for because I don’t like canola oil.
It’s just one of the neutral oils, but I don’t think it matters which in a baking recipe (avocado has a high smoke point, so is good for frying).
I generally use sunflower or grapeseed oil when I need a neutral oil when I need a neutral oil (like mig, I don’t care for canola).
I had a bit left over of each of the fillings, enough for a schmear of ricotta filling over each half of an English muffin and a more generous amount of almond filling on top. I broiled them for a few minutes, and had a delicious and decadent breakfast.
I was making Moroccan flatbreads yesterday for the first time. It called for neutral oil and I decided to use just plain veg oil that I keep on hand for frying. I could swear it smelled fishy even though it had never been used before and was too new to be rancid. The flatbreads are fine enough but it will be a long time before I buy plain vegetable oil again.
fully agree - i can’t stand the stuff.
I love grapeseed oil from Trader Joe’s.
I don’t think they carry that anymore. I have been on the lookout since Aldi has taken a while to restock. It’s not showing up on the Trader Joe’s website.
I just bought a bottle last week, SSF, near El Camino Real.
FWIW, I’ve been able to find La Tourangelle grapeseed oil at both our local Safeway/Albertsons and at QFC/Kroger.
Costco here in Canada carry grapeseed oil. I think it’s 3 litres but i use it for everything.
Wish our Sam’s carried it. We should be getting a Costco in the next year or so ![]()
These were so good I ordered more. These are the “mini” ones, which are just regular-sized cookies. All that was left were these little tins, so that’s what I got.
I didn’t see these. Saw the others sold out.
(I did order them quite some time ago.)
For NYE celebrations I baked a half-size of Louisa Weiss’s German Apple Cake, as recommended by @CaitlinM. Looks good!
That looks great.
One more day to “holiday bake.” It’s always bittersweet when this time of year is over ![]()
how do you like it?
It was good. Very well received. I’m not a big fruit dessert person.
