No idea, but I hope soon. My “house reds” collection is running low as I seem to find the best deals on whites at G.O. lately. I just picked up some Esterlina Vineyards chardonnay at the Bayshore Blvd G.O. in SF.
The last two visits to GO has been rather unproductive. Not a lot of new items and nothing particularly interesting…!
Ooh, free-range eggs! Will have to check my local GO to see if they have them.
Yesterday at Alameda GO:
$2.99 24 oz. Graziers Grass Fed Whole Milk Plain Yogurt Non-Homogenized from Sierra Nevada Cheese Company plant in Willows, CA. Best By date of December 2. (‘higher in Omega 3’s and CLA’s from certified cows on pasture year round’). Doesn’t claim to be organic.
$2.00 Contented Hen Organic Free Range Grade A Medium 12 Eggs
I think that Free Range is not the same as Pasture Raised and just means that they have outdoor access which might not mean a lot. These eggs had a Best By date of October 31 so that could be why they were on sale. Here’s some info I found on terms such as organic, cage-free, free-range, pasture:
I bought the pasture raised eggs and they were very good, but had the typical yellow yolk. I’ve bought the Heirloom Fresh blue & brown eggs before an they have a bright orange yolk. Someone I know who has chickens said the orange yolks come from them eating bugs/worms etc. versus just feed, but I imagine you could put that in their feed to get the orange yolk.
My unconfirmed source tells me that the Grocery Outlet 2019 Fall 20% Off Wine Sale will start on

$1.99 Charles SF bars are back. This time there are two flavors. PLenty in stock in Palo Alto two days ago.

Variety of Rick Bayless salsas and hot sauce with an April 2020 best by date.
Clerk confirmed wine sale is “coming soon.”

Nice! Please post any good finds, I’m gonna hit it up this weekend.
Bayshore Boulevard, SF G.O.
OK so that mustard has a best by date of November 2019, but at 12 cents a jar I’m willing to take some risks. Does mustard really go bad?
If you can find a better price on Peeps flavored cereal I don’t want to know about it.
And while I’m not advocating jello shots, they sure do make it easy for you.
Bought a bunch of wine as well but nothing really stood out.
That charcoal appears to be “activated charcoal”, not the kind you grill with. Some people take it for “detoxing” purposes.
Ah. Thank you. Did not know that.
I use that charcoal powder to make black sourdough bread. I also have it earmarked to make black gua baos and dumpling wrappers.
The black really works with this brain-style cross section view. Is that a loaf of bread or a CT scan?
It’s an owl!
Alameda GO today (they have a good deli section) -
Deli
$2.99 Graziers Whole Milk Plain Yogurt from Grass-Fed cows year round from Sierra Nevada Cheese Co. 24 oz. , high in omega 3’s
$2.49 Organic Valley Blue Cheese Crumbles, Organic and made from pasture-raised cows, 4 oz.
$3.49 Applegate Organic Uncured Beef Hot Dogs, 100% grass-fed pasture raised beef, 14 oz.
Other
$2.49 Elmhurst Milked Walnuts 32 oz., about 3x higher concentration of nuts than other nut milks and no fillers or sweeteners Best nut milk I’ve tried and use it every morning as a coffee creamer.
$3.99 Carabella Pinot Gris Estate 2015 from Chehalem Mountains of Oregon, good reviews, tastes of honeysuckle and rich minerality.
99 cents for 6 bottles of Perrier Petites Bubbles Lightly Carbonated Mineral Water unsweetened, 16.9 oz. in plastic bottles, product from France. That’s 99 cents for all 6 bottles, not for each bottle.
A ffeew days ago at the Alameda Grocery Outlet:
Deli section -
$4.99 Sabra Organic Hummus with Roasted Pine Nuts , 32 oz. a very good commercial hummus.
$11.99 Organic Valley Mild Cheddar Cheese, 32 oz. from milk from cows that are pasture-raised. Don’t know it 100% or pasture-finished. Didn’t see their Sharp Cheddar version.
$2.99 Organic Caveman Blue Cheese from Rogue Creamery in Central Point, Oregon, 1 oz, from one of the best cheesemakers in the world, another one of the blues won a top award.
$7.49/lb Artikass Raw Milk Gouda with Truffle, from the Netherlands, in 8 or 9 oz. chunks. Ruth at Chowhound liked it.
Drinks -
$2.49 Elmhurst Milked Hazelnuts, 32 oz.,on the north side of the shelf above the open freezer section in the middle of the store. It’s about 2x more concentrated than other milk nuts so it’s equivalent to a half gallon. Great for a coffee creamer though I do prefer their Milked Walnut which doesn’t have the added sugar that the Hazelnut does.
$3.99 Seaside Cellars Vinho Verde 2017 Wine from Portugal, 750 ml. with 11.5% ABV, on the shelf in the white wine/rose section. I generally like the earthiness of Portuguese wine and will try anything at GO that’s at that price or below. Tastes young and highly effervescent, with flavors of watermelon rind, vanilla, white pepper, tart Granny Smith apple, pink grapefruit, tannins with a bite. Unlike anything else I’ve ever had, begging to be mixed with pomegranate juice or something similar. Paired well with cheese. Recommended in reviews as an aperitif. I’d buy it again as a change of pace.
