Foods You Dislike, But Like IN Other Things

For me, the #1 is olives. I can’t stand to eat them whole or alone, But I like them in small pieces and quantities on pizza, in salads, and on nachos.

Anything like this for you?

Port and blue cheese. I don’t like them on their own, but together it’s a match made in heaven!

Not quite the same thing, but…

Love almonds, hate marzipan or anything with almond paste or almond extract.

Love olive oil, dislike olives. Although I’ve had a couple of slices on nachos and can deal with them that way.

Caraway. Hate hate hate it on its own, but it’s kind of essential in rye for a reuben. I dislike it in most anything else (way to ruin sauerkraut).

Also, cloves. But they are required in Rotkohl aka braised red cabbage. I tend to use just a dash of ground vs. accidentally biting on one of those mofos (or I pick them out before serving).

Bananas. Useless fruit on its own, but perfection frozen or as part of a sundae.

Wahine is like this. We used to have our game sausage made for us every year by a Polish butcher. I thought his grinds using caraway were great, but Wahine wouldn’t touch them, She’s OK with it in rye breads, though.

Onions. I appreciate the flavor they add but don’t generally like pieces of them in my food. Will tolerate on tacos.

OK on burgers and in hotdogs? In salads?

I like French onion soup, onion rings, fried potatoes w/onion, fajitas w/chargrilled onions. The list goes on. I like onion just about every which way but Raw.

How could I forget those chalk balls aka chickpeas?

Wonderful as falafel, fine in hummus, but useless as the major component of a dish.

Hate milk.

Love ice cream.

Same here! I returned a Whole Foods’ egg salad sandwich the other day because it was more raw onion than egg

I will gladly take your raw onions.

Love them with some fresh horseradish.

Me too but not even on Tacos (sin Cebolla por Favor).
But I love Onion Tart, Onion Soup, Onion Rings ¯_( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉)_/¯

I like cranberry juice, dried cranberries and cranberries in baked goods…but don’t really care for cranberry sauce. I have a friend that makes a great cranberry-orange relish with walnuts and red wine and I’ll eat that. But whether it’s whole or jellied, I don’t like the traditional canned stuff. That being said, if I’m at a Thanksgiving dinner and the canned stuff is all that is offered, I’ll take a teaspoon full and eat it because it’s a traditional dish, but I cannot say that I like it.

And though I’m sure others will disagree with my dislike of the canned stuff, I will say that it’s not a hill I will die on.

No.

Raw is intense, but too often cooked are a slithery, slimy nightmare.

I too have a low tolerance for raw onions with most things. But if they’re mild, I don’t mind tiny bits in salads or very thin slices on burgers. Never on hot dogs.

I love the sharp bite and crunch that a thiccc slice of red onion provides on the bottom burger bun. Nice contrast to the meaty richness of the patty, and the melty creaminess of the cheese.

Even converted my PIC

Onions are an oddity. That’s for sure.
