Favorite quince chutney recipe?

Hello,

A family member gifted me several quinces from her tree back in September, and I’d love to make chutney with them for Thanksgiving appetizers.

Back when I got them, I already processed them following the directions in this video. Basically, rinsed off fuzz, baked to soften a bit, peeled, and cut up and tossed with a small amount of sugar (I didn’t add cinnamon or other spices). Now they are frozen in my chest freeer.

Would love to know any tried and true recipes, or a recipe from an author you trust!

Wanted to report back in case someboday is wondering someday!

I ended up making pretty much this recipe, though I didn’t measure super carefully. Came out great! I initially tried to reduce the amount of sugar a little bit, but found that it was too tart without the full amount.

Chutney is a good idea!

I found this thread searching for what to do with the one I have. I bought two green at a Mexican market, tried a bit unripe and let one ripen. Smells amazing, and I’m macerating

while I look for something simple. Preserve or jam I think. Or maybe a pickle. Does it change colors with cooking? Yes!

This page has some good ideas.

ETA Oops! Just noticed this was a chutney thread. I was looking for favorite quince recipes. I will link to the jam making thread.

Is the fruit in your picture a quince? It looks like guava, though it’s sort of hard to tell. Guavas would be green though, and quinces definitely would be yellow.

I think you always have to cook quince to make it edible.

Maybe you have green guava, as Dave suggests
