That’s where I discovered Tony’s as well! I think they had 4 or 5 kinds there, but since I’ve had it before, I wanted to try new-to-me brands and flavors.
I really enjoy Omnom chocolates, especially the sea salted toffee and the caramel. They sometimes have a black n burnt barley which I also really like.
This one was…interesting. When I first put a square in my mouth, before it began to dissolve, I caught a scent of something unfamiliar, and I wasn’t sure I was going to like it. It was almost herby, but not in a good way. It seemed “off” to me.
But then the sour lemon kicked in as the chocolate dissolved and kicked that otherness clear out of there. The lemonyness gets even stronger as the chocolate dissolves on your tongue, almost to the point of being too lemony. Just shy of too lemony.
However, it does leave a slightly off lemon oil back note on your tongue and in your nose when the square is done, and for that, I won’t buy it again.
So, is it yuzu flavor or lemon flavor ? From the description I was expecting only yuzu but from your description it sounds hardly any yuzu and only lemon ?
Both. It starts with the herbal scent/slight taste, but lemon takes over. And I thought yuzu also has a sour-citrus note to it. This seems to describe exactly what I tasted.
Yuzu is very sour and tastes like a mix between a tangy lemon, bitter grapefruit and sweet orange. Its tart flavor profile is underscored with hints of floral and herbal notes.
This one I liked. Good smooth dark chocolate flavor, with a nice hint of sour cherry as it began to melt on the tongue. Not overpowering like the yuzu-lemon one.
Pump St seems to have a cult following in the UK. The company is a bakery as well so they incorporate their baked goods into their chocolate bars. They have a rye crumb bar that also sounds delish.
Last one. Made in Ireland, good dark chocolate flavor, with appropriate sea salt sprinkled in. As it melts, you then get to the caramel, which seems to be tiny salt-sized bits of hard toffee caramel. A bit unexpected (I was expecting caramel goo, like with Ghiradelli squares), but still good.
