Not my idea but would that I had seen it before pitching out cookbooks that were falling apart or that I never used, and a few old belts “outgrown” well before Y2K!

If you clean your knives and they aren’t 100% dry, wouldn’t you risk developing some gross bacteria in there?
I think I would use cookbooks I never wanted to open again rather than the Joy of Cooking and others.
I like the Farm Journal one for instance, but Adele Davis is an appropriate knife receptacle.
A quick wipe with a towel would take care of that, plus the paper wicks away any extra moisture. I use a phonebook(remember those) to store my knives after I sharpen them.
