Uffda!
occasionally missteps like that can lead to great results. in the late 1930s, ruth wakefield was making chocolate cookies when, instead of mixing melted chocolate, she instead added chopped chocolate, inventing the chocolate chip cookie.
for me, a few years back i had melted some butter intending to toast some breadcrumbs (for what i don’t recall). it was only after i had poured the ‘breadcrumbs’ into that pan that i realized that i had grabbed the jar containing pastina.
i didn’t want to just toss them. so after the pastina was toasted, i added chicken stock, and cooked until the pastina was tender, then stirred in a beaten egg — a thicker version of the ‘italian penicillin’ my mother made me as a child.
turned out well. another version is to replace the egg with chopped broccoli — other greens could work, as well.
I used to keep EVOO in a Billy Bee honey squeeze bottle, got home late one night(tipsy) , made some oatmeal and grabbed the bottle of “honey”. Couldn’t figure out why it tasted so weird, until the next morning
At least it was kinda healthy as opposed to most drunk foods.
Wow! That’s a crazy picture in my head now!! That could have been disasterous!
Yeah. I have done some really stupid things.
Years ago, my attempt at a Cooking Light noodle pancake recipe turned into a sticky burned mess. I had to throw the pan away because it was impossible to clean!
Well, that’s certainly the ultimate fail!
I can’t believe this thread has been dormant for 2 years! Have we all perfected all of our recipes? Not a single kitchen fail in 24 months?
I find that extremely hard to believe
A recent fail of mine happened back in Philly, where the kitchen was lacking hardware & I tried my hand at a one-pot pasta dish. Fancy lemon linguine were to cook in a skillet in very little water, then be united with peas and shrimp. I don’t know WTF was up with that pasta, but the starch it released turned the whole thing into a thick, goopy mess of a ‘sauce,’ with only the shrimp to be saved. Positively horrendous
Thanks for reviving! We all need a good laugh with our friends who have not hurt themselves!

As @emglow101 says above (I think; not sure the memorable field goal is as common)
Here’s one
Did you mean to post the link to the same post twice?
No, but I’m getting the "you’ve done this too many times, please wait message ", so deleting will have to wait.
UGH I hate that msg! So random, too!
I enjoyed this read three years later.
I. Can’t. Poach. An. Egg. To. Save. My. Life.
This spiffy new purchase at least keeps the whites all together, but the timing has proven to be tricky. Maybe I should just use the pods to make really fast HBEs
Sorry I can’t contribute, everything I make is absolutely perfect.
Feh! That’s just the gin talking
