The prices are ouch.
900 TWD is about 30 USD.
Hi damiano,
I’ve posted that CCK website myself. CCK might well be one of the brands sposored by Shibazi–that seems to be the way they operate.
Just detective work. I wish I could go to Yangjiang myself–especially when they have their international events.
Hi Vecchiouomo,
I did my homework–even went to restaurant supply and grabbed a few–also went to an elite Japanese supplier for comparison. Still, I finally chose the one that stood out on AMAZON and AliExpress–and it’s been amazing.
but
Now that I have one–and have continued following the market in a more academic way–I realize that the Chinese grocery store method is as good as any. They just hand you one–and you buy it.
The market is just too huge and undifferentiated.
Hi Ray,
My own detective work suggests that CCK is in no way related to shibazi and that CCK is of a much higher quality, which makes sense given the higher price point of CCK.
This is my working assumption until you can convince us otherwise showing proof once you visit Yangjiang.
Hi damiano,
We need different kinds of information–international marketing information–to test my speculation. I see Shibazi as a huge holding company with many brands; you see it as a brand.
I guess the only thing that could possibly be compared to Shibazi would be Kai in Japan.
Hi Ray,
The last thing we need is marketing information. Though I can see why you’d say that. We need you to visit Yangjiang and once you have seen the actual factory where they make CCK alongside Shibazi we can finally validate your theory.
That’s more my style. Whew.
Hi damiano,
It’s going to be much much more complicated than that. I unwisely used “side by side” when we already know that work is distributed from location to location depending on load with a “name” later slapped on. We see that described in some detail on Ali Baba–more detail, if one is prepared to buy 1000 or more.
If you had enough resources to order a large enough quantity of cleavers fitting a proscribed protocol with specified material, they’d even box it for you and engrave it as a damiano–and you could compete with both Shibazi and CCK back in Holland as a retailer.
You do like to make baseless ridiculous claim, don’t you?
Not sure if you know, but that is because of the copyright in China… very sad story.
Exactly. If you buy that Shi Ba Zhi Chef’s knife from Amazon and try it… and if that is the only Western Chef’s knife you have ever tried, you may also conclude you do not like Chef’s knife very much.
It is not so complicated Ray.
Any knife is produced in a factory. We only need you to find the factory where they produce CCK alongside Shibazi. You are a good detective, I know you can pull it off if it’s true. Have faith in your capabilities!
“Might well be” and “seems” is the language of speculation.
To use microbrew beer as an example. Even if the crazy case that they are produced in two factories next to each other, it does not meant they are the same company. Someone is making baseline ridiculous claim as usual. Hey, are you surprised though?
Shi Ba Zhi started in 1983. The information is well known and it is states in their own website. The company got pretty big in the 2000.
阳江十八子集团有限公司旗下刀具品牌,成立于1983年。
Chan Chi Kee started in 1950s.
Chan Chi Kee is not a brand under Shi Ba Zhi. This flies in the face of any logic.
Yup.
Hi Chem,
Lots of interesting unanswered questions worthy of investigation. Not easy to answer with limited access to financial information.
Hi Meekah,
I practice what I teach. The first step is always looking for unanswered questions that can be explored and formulated in testable form, with independent and dependent variables.
For products sold in the United States, there is a great deal of information available, some of it public, sufficient to at least formulate a hypothesis to test against real data–or to gather data/opinions from informants.
Similar information is not available from China.
Ray. It is not difficult to to know CCK exists decades before Shi Ba Zhi. Please stop making baseless claim like CCK is a brand under Shi Ba Zhi or that they the same company.
Hi Chem,
It’s not a claim, it’s a question with good foundations. On the world market, CCK is somewhat of an enigma as I’ve indicated in my write-ups.
