Seems to me this could also be considered a spin/derivative of a hamburger/cheeseburger po’ boy rather than a Philly. Hamburger po’ boys were the focus of interest here for some foodies back before the smash burger craze followed by the ‘Chef’s Creation’ burger craze, which we’re still in.
Never heard of these, but as it turns out, I’ve been making them at home for decades. It started when I had no buns so was using a loaf of Pepperidge Farm oat bread.
