Those are some fine looking burgers there Viking! What was the cooking method? On the outdoor gas grill? Smoked? Pan fried? Do tell…also the tray they are on, strictly for serving or for the melting?

Homemade burgers in both cases were seared on high heat gas grill and finished in table top convection oven to get rare centers warm and melt cheese evenly.

For the open face on toast, bread was toasted separately then final burger was assembled including basil under the cheese on the tray, and then tray was placed in oven.

When I shut down the grill in late November I use basically the same method but do the sear with a carbon steel or cast iron pan in the stove top.

Nice burger porn viking! So that is a unique mix. If I read that correctly you do provolone and gorgonzola on the same burger? I’m trying to wrap my head around that. I like both and maybe I misread your post.

Yes. Gorgonzola on top of mild provolone on top of fresh basil leaves and pop it in the warming oven to melt the cheeses.

Its a good combo I think.

So last night I went and got a double cheese bacon at the system. Level of inebriation was moderate. I think I actually do prefer the Cali here. Not sure why, all of my previous burger logic and experience says this burger should be sans veggie, yet here we are…

Experience was epic late night drunk Americana as always. I don’t think there’s a single American restaurant in NJ I enjoy going to as much as this place. This place is a freaking national treasure.

I made burgers!!! Although the picture doesn’t do it justice this is a pretty tasty meal. Meat was Trader Joe’s, topped with pub cheddar jalapeño cheese, sautéed onions and bacon pieces.

TJ’s ground beef 80/20 makes a great burger.

Also if those are the TJ uncured bacon ends they are awesome.

Yeah just some salt and pepper for seasoning and the burgers were pretty good. I liked the cheese it was good with just enough spice from the jalapeño. I also made plain cheddar and Mediterranean feta cheese, the pub cheddar was the winner.

Taylor Swift fan…huh woulda never guessed that one! Anywho…yeah that’s a whole wheat bun…under the wad of jalapeno pub cheese and the bacon “pieces”. Those were interesting I expected them to be cupped up bacon scraps but instead they were mostly whole pieces of bacon just wadded up in a ball. Not what I was expecting but it did the job.
