Tortilla chips, from what I understand, in Mexico are not salted.
Anytime I see someone salting tortilla chips it reminds me of all those people who reflexively pour soy sauce on their fried rice.

Ugh, I never even considered that a person might want to put soy sauce on fried rice!
I’m less definite on the chips salted vs unsalted. Maybe it depends what else is on the table.

You’ve obviously never worked at a Chinese fast food restaurant.
My dad used to put butter first on all sandwiches, even if a layer of Mayo or PB was to follow. I’m not sure he still does this.
I only use butter on certain types of sandwiches, such as French Dips or cheesesteak type sandwiches; I spread with garlic butter, then grill before assembling the sandwiches. It gives them a wonderful layer of flavor, and helps the dip sandwiches hold up to the jus. Good rolls are a must for that too, since some of them tend to disintegrate.
you reminded me that as a kid, i loved my peanut putter sandwiches with butter, not jelly.
