Respect for pre gaming
Doubly
i didn’t like the sausage/sage combination and I didn’t love their cheese.
I’m a man of large appetite, and even with two slices under my belt, I knew I’d still be feelin’ peckish at Malani (with apologies to the Coen brothers)
Wow!
Three layer halavah from Sahadi’s on Atlantic, the chocolate border probably reduces rather than sweetens the dessert ![]()
Baba rhum with canoli cream from court at pastry, my wife liked it but said it was closer to baba rhum pudding.
it doesnt look much like a baba rhum as I remember -here is a pic of industrial scale production

assuming it tasted good though!
yup, after surveying their display cases, I had to ask if they had any ![]()
I love to point to their Sfogliatella and say “I’ll have one of these. How do you pronounce it?” The shop is small enough that the other cashier will usually hear my question, so I’ll ask how she pronounces it.
Over the years, I’ve heard some incredible pronunciations though I suppose nothing beats the way Brooklynites (and new jerseryites) pronounce Capocollo.
best,
Do we say GabbaGoooool funny or something?!
lol, fuggetaboutit!
zvoy adell
yup, another good one is sfoggee
Coming to the end of my Brooklyn pickings: a dense, glorious slab of knafeh from damascus bakery on Atlantic; sweet, sticky, and doing a convincing job of arguing that I should move in with Mrs and mr @SteveR
I may or may not have been able to resist eating the other half later the same day.
best,
Now I’m craving their lahmacun and fatayer.
I am eating and spending too much lately, but this 14-person brunch at Big 5 Seafood Restaurant in (maybe? I’m bad at geography) Dyker Heights was a can’t miss. I’m on bread and water for the foreseeable future, as I am now fat and broke.
Big crab!
What happened to the big crab - steamed legs (best), fried body (third best), decorated egg custard (second best).
Also clams, lobster, and scallop. Loved the clams and lobster, not that crazy about the scallop, as it was very garlicky. But the noodles were good.
Razor clam stir fry (adorned), mixed seafood stir fry (oranged). I like all these things.
Dragon eel, claypot eel with rice The steamed eel was interesting, pretty bony, though. And I thought the claypot eel was too salty while everyone else found it bland. Chacun a son blah blah.
Steamed turbot, claypot barramundi. Turbot too soft, barramundi excellent.
Oyster omelette. Good effort, have had better (at Kopitiam).
Pea shoots and water spinach, for health. I snatched all the hot peppers from the water spinach and then complained it was too spicy, because I do not understand cause and effect.
Before the peanuts make it to your table in little bowls, they have a meeting to discuss the future.
The chef and staff, at least as of a few years back, were legacies of the bygone Oriental Garden, on Elizabeth St. in Manhattan.
Aha! Best fried noodles with seafood ever!
