Yesterday I learned that these not only exist and are a thang, but that there are a lot of different brands out there.
Who here is throwing which birria bombs, and why those?
Thanks!

And TIL that these exist. Is this just a fancy name for a pre-mixed spice pack?
Kinda maybe. Wahine ordered some last night, so we’ll find out.
I was shocked to learn these pucks are expensive–as in $10 EACH. The appeal is that lobbing one grenade will turn 4 pounds of meat and a little water into a passable birria.
Yeah, the making it look like a bath bomb part confuses me! But leave it to GenZ or influencers to rename something just to confuse us older folks.
They remind me of these:
If you have had Chinese style hot pot at home, you can buy all sorts of pre-mixed soup bases in lieu of adding your own flavorful broth at the Asian markets. I’ve never tried the blocks, which seems similar to these birria bombs. If anyone tries a bomb, please report back on results.
I was expecting something more like a bagel bomb filled with birria LOL.
Who wouldn’t want to take a bath submerged in birria?
Not birria, but makes me think of this.
Lordt. My eyes! Where’s the bleach when ya need it!
j/k
Is this somehow the flip side of kids eating Tide Pods?
Pretty darn cool if it’s good!
Makes me wonder about a Pho bomb, btw. I’ve seen Pho bases out there but just had no faith they were worth trying.
Watch the sodium on any kind of soup base
We had the first “bombed” birria tonight. It was excellent, and exceeded our expectations. The result sort of takes the sting out of paying $10 for each seasoning puck.
Perhaps the best thing about this is that it takes almost zero effort. Basically, it’s 3-5 pounds of chuck/pot roast, 5 cups of water (I used stock), and the bomb. Pressure cooked for 1:45:00. I think this belongs in everyone’s “crockpot classics” repertoire, considering the shredded beef can go in/on so many things to great effect.
I’m already looking forward to the second batch…
