Be Not Ashamed, Thrift Store Shoppers!

Luck be a lady / smallh

La Brea Tar Pits and the George C. Page museum (not the George Page from the Nature tv show) are a must see on any SoCal visit. The first time I visited, 1966 or so, I sat on the grass at one of the picnic-y areas. White pants. Tar in the grass. Bummer. Went back in '94 to show the kids the site. Still an incredible place in the middle of hustle and bustle L.A.
Catalina Island is a nice all day visit, too.

I’m wondering how many cat stories I may have shared!

I think galley kitchens are the best, most efficient! Mine is but not so small, I have adequate counter space.

I watch House Hunters International…some tiny kitchens with only 2 feet of counter space would kill me!

There were a lot of balancing acts involved. And it had no window - just a ventilation chute. Not ideal, but workable.

Ohhhh!

My first apartment had roughly 1 foot of counter workspace. I learned to mix in the sink. Second had maybe 2 feet; sink to the rescue. First house had about 5 feet. Still used the sink. Weekend place, back to 2 feet; yup, it has a sink. Current house has probably 15 feet, but I’m stuck in the sink. Works, nay, is ingrained habit for me.

(We do have a 3.5 x 4.5 marble topped table in today’s kitchen, so pastry and big work projects aren’t a problem.) Sticking to the topic, husband found the marble at a garage sale, cut it to size and rounded the edges. Cost without labor, $10.

I don’t believe you.

Which part? How long I’ve lived here? That I’m not rich? Or that many of my neighbors have less money than I do?

Be specific!

Sunshine found a dress at Goodwill that she really liked. We thought it might be a bit long, but she really liked it. I told her go ahead and get it as it was only $5.

I ended up having to hem it, but now its the perfect length and Sunshine is very happy!!

That’s a pretty one! Layered with a nice blazer…

Yes… we’ve found a couple nice blazers at Goodwill, as well.

Mrs. ricepad and Spawn2 found this Calphalon cast iron today at the local Goodwill Outlet. GO is where items that don’t sell in the regular Goodwill stores go, before they either get bundled up for sale overseas (clothing and a lot of other soft goods) or the landfill (nearly everything else). It’s hard to imagine that this pan didn’t get snapped up in the regular Goodwill store. It cost all of a buck!

Not exactly sure why she brought it home, because she knows I already have a 12" CI pan and she usually tries to dissuade me from adding redundancies to our household, but now that I have it, I AIN’T GIVIN’ IT UP!
