I’ve tried several more sauces since the last time I posted on this thread. A few hits, a few misses, and lots of mediocre. KC style sauces are what I tend to prefer.
Among the hits:
Kinder’s Hot and Kinder’s Roasted Garlic (I haven’t had Kinder’s sauce yet that I didn’t like.)
Rufus Teague Touch O’ Heat (and less of a hit Rufus Teague Honey Sweet) These sauces are sweet, but RT sauces also have a tart family resemblance that appeals to me.
Joe’s Kansas City Original Bar-B-Que Sauce (the Joe’s mentioned in the article bbqboy posted today) I liked this one a lot.
Schultz’s Sweet Hickory Kansas City Style (a bit of a surprise because I didn’t like this brand’s Memphis sauce at all)
Lillie’s Q Hot Smoky (this is about as much heat as I can like in a bbq sauce)
Private Selection Smokehouse Charred Ends (my favorite of this Kroger brand. I’ve generally been disappointed with Private Selection brand bbq sauce. The other sauces I’ve had aren’t bad, just mediocre.)
Stubb’s Sweet Heat (barely makes my list of hits, not because it’s too sweet or too hot for me. It has too much cumin, but it’s distinctive enough that I’ll probably buy it occasionally)
I bought some Stubbs sauce once and thought it was a bit bland, so I started adding ingredients and made the best bbq sauce I’ve ever tasted, it was so good! But I was drinking and the improvements were lost to followup. I tried it later, and it was just as good as I remembered from that night
Yea ha! This made me think of those tall vertical rotisseries in France on which they cook chicken and/or small pigs and so that the fat drips down on peeled potatoes. You’d need to have the potatoes in a pan small enough for heat and smoke to go up to the chicken and have the fat drip down into the pan. Probably let the pan sit and collet fat for a while before adding the potatoes so the potatoes don’t overcook. Hmmm It’s worth some thought.
My favorite of all is from Mendocino brewing. I live in northern California… Really good . I have tried plenty of bbq sauces . This has become my favorite. I will continue to buy .
The sauce I’ve bought over and over again is Diana Sauce. I didn’t know it was a Heinz Canada product until today, when I looked up the link to post it here.
I try gourmet sauces once or twice a year. I don’t like the Joe Beef BBQ sauce. I opened it last summer and will be tossing it shortly.
Don’t know who all has tried this. No way in hell I’d pay $15, I think I paid a buck or two in the store. This stuff if loose and vinegary, but I got addicted pretty quick. I like this sauce with fries more than any other sauce with fries. It’s so loose, I’ll brush it on while grilling.
Whatchya got in the top drawer? Dang, I have access to like unlimited metal filing cabinets. Start my own BBQ. I’m sure OSHA would have no problem with that.
