Bake your bread, make your desserts 2020

One of the 1st things I learned to make in Home EC class, which I think was mandatory for girls back then. Boys had to take shop - that certainly wouldn’t go over these days…

Loved Home EC, thought it was great fun, especially since I wasn’t allowed to cook or bake in my mom’s kitchen(s). Ever.

Oh I was def a late bloomer to anything resembling cooking and baking all those years ago. In grade school subjects were most def gender biased. I loved shop class though.

For some reason, I thought popovers were hard to make. Mix a few ingredients in a blender, get the pan super preheated, pour and 30 mins later-popovers.

Truly, they’re like magic. Made them for my kids a few times, and needless to say they were a big hit. I think they’re dangerously tasty!

Custard…as soft food for DH after oral surgery.

I think there would be far more Oral Surgeries worldwide if this was the payoff!

Wow. Nice rise!

Yum! That looks perfect.

Wish him a good recovery!

I’ve been missing savory custard - chawanmushi and quiche.

Lemon-Blueberry muffins. My Aunt bought fancy papers, lol. I think she finally trusts I’m really baking.

You really are, and often. Impressed.

I like baking but the problem: we are only 2, it takes a while to finish a thing.

We are only two since our son now lives/works out of state. But we share, freeze, bake for gatherings to make baking worthwhile.

The muffins look delicious!

I’ve always liked the look of those papers. Are they any different than using regular muffin cups? Do you have to order them online, or does the grocery store carry them?

First time using them. My Aunt bought them at Whole Foods. I typically use the baking spray in the blue can.

Got this lovely farm box full of plums, so after sharing with my sis, decided to make David Lebovitz’s Moelleux aux fruits d’ete (Aka soft cake of summer fruits).

Easy and tasty. My plums sank a bit more than his, but still delicious.

A unique Honey cake in advance of Rosh Hashanah is on my radar. The recipe encourages baking a few days ahead of slicing in order for the flavors to strengthen.

Nice, but definitely not pareve!

I’m looking forward to making dozens of recipes from this very eclectic website of jewish family recipes. I really like the diversity.
