Appliance Hell

My favorite is the one where the psychiatrist writes “Just plain nuts” on his notepad.

Ah, but do you have a book for exhaust manifold cooking? https://www.motortrend.com/features/1409-cooking-on-your-engine-manifold-destiny/

Dinner’s cold in a Tesla.

Manifold cooking is big with snowmobilers where I live. Also, OTR truckers used to do it, kinda, by putting their heat and eat stuff over the tranny box.

The roomate used to reheat the leftovers for lunch atop the engine of the work truck on his hour+ drive to the jobsites. I was always concerned about the foil + acid reaction, but he seems fo be okay after all those years. Heck, we made loads of ‘hobo stews’ bitd in scouts.

Unless it spontaneously combusts …

I must have jinxed myself. The new refrigerator I bought in March 2022 (yes, less than 2 years ago)- to replace a less than 3 yr old fridge … is now throwing an error code. I called my way-too-familiar appliance store - hi, it’s me again - and since I bought an extended warranty -well, service is covered, but I had to call and schedule it through the warranty company - who then authorizes it and bumps it back to the appliance store. I’ll get the time frame tomorrow for a Saturday tech. Right now it’s still cooling … according to my fridge thermometer. Hope I don’t have to use my balcony as Mother Nature’s fridge.

The lithium should keep you calm in such disasters.

In every cloud, a silver lining …

Since the onset of Covid in 2020, we have had to replace a stacked washer dryer unit, a dishwasher, a gas range and a refrigerator. We live in a very remote place - were fortunate to get the washer/dryer combo before the washing machine quit on us. Of course it was what a local appliance dealer had and is a high end LG unit but I’ve never loved an appliance as much as I love this one. We would not have spent the money if we were not in such apocalyptic times.

Had about a 6 month wait for the dishwasher, but I’d rather hand wash dishes than clothes and linens. Our new gas range outperforms our old one, even though the gas plumber who came to uninstall and reinstall the new one cost almost as much as the appliance itself. But we didn’t get so lucky with our new refrigerator. It fits in the space we had, but the storage is poorly designed and not as roomy as our old one. Win some, lose some…

Let’s hope 2024 is a better year for all of us.

I’m ready for some smooth sailing…

I probably just jinxed myself.

Me, too and I didn’t have a choice during Covid of what I could immediately replace my old fridge with - it was, what have you got - and I understood that! I fiddled with the interior storage of my new fridge a bit by putting in little turntables and one freestanding shelf of my own. The lack of space in the freezer is dismaying, however - went from side by side to freezer on the bottom.

I honestly think the refrigerator is missing a shelf on the door - there’s an empty blank space that can be put to use but I have had no success with the appliance dealer helping with that. They have no incentive. Funny you mention turntables, that’s what I’ve done, too. I’ve also bought a couple of narrow clear plastic bins that I can line up salad dressings, condiments and yogurt containers that I can pull out and slide back instead of sorting around for them loose on the shelves.

We lived in Europe for awhile, and I got used to the smaller refrigerators there and shopping every 3 days compared to the US. Our new fridge reminds me of that.

There is an interesting election coming up in 2024….

There’s going to be nothing smooth about it. Rough seas, high winds and storm warnings - maybe earthquakes and tsunamis…

Agreed - independent of the outcome it could be rough or really nasty (for the longer term)

I’m glad I’m old. My future is limited - no offspring to worry about. I have new appliances. Whatever happens will happen.
