Yes… when I received it from my neighbor I gave the entire unit a good cleaning and ran a white vinegar and water solution through it.
As far as dentist, yep… she has already replaced one cap this year. I just nod and change the subject.

Run a pipe cleaner in the SS tubes and see what comes out…

A year or so before my big Samsung fridge’s compressor gave up the ghost, the ice maker quit working (likely about 10 years old at that point). One or the other of the solenoid valves was a likely culprit.
While I was taking my time researching how to fix, I started buying store ice and filling the dispenser bin with that. After a few days, I decided I liked the store ice better and quit trying to figure out the ice maker’s problem.
My last fridge buy came with the icemaker and bin separately. I tossed the maker and the bin became the in-house place to stage empty aluminum cans for recycling…
Interesting but weird. My new fridge has an icemaker and bucket but no dispenser. I don’t mind fishing it out with a cup, and the ice on this one is better than the old Samsung. This one is also much faster at making the ice than was the Samsung.
My electric can opener started screaming this week. If I open a can while I’m doing dishes, the dishwasher & can opener seem to have a competition as to who can scream the loudest…
Like dueling banjos with appliances…
I’ll put my coffee grinder up against them. Yikes.

Do cats (or dogs) come running when you run the can opener?
No pets, here. We’ve been thinking about a cat, but not yet.
I had a cat who came running when I used the thru the door icemaker. He loved the noise. He’d jump up and hang from the shelf under the chute. And no, he didn’t go after the ice.
Sadly he never explained this to me.
You expect a cat to explain something?
They feed you misinformation. They are trying to trick you. “Ooooo. Let’s be warm and snuggly.” Pow…bites thumb.
And yet? We come back for more, again and again. Dumb Hoomans.
Sam was the only cat I’ve ever had with real empathy. I’d he could have explained, he would have.
I’M BAAAACK.
so, I replaced my dead-at-3-years KitchenAid fridge with a Bosch in 2022. It was what they had in stock annd could deliver immediately. And I got an extended warranty.
Welp. A few days ago it began making the banging, popping noises in the icemaker. We are at the 3 year anniversary.
Reddit told me it’s a stripped plastic gear in the ice maker, and a notorious flaw; the solution is to replace the entire ice maker. It also throws an error code which terrified me because I thought it was a freezer malfunction (apparently the ice maker throws the same code). The good news is, handling the warranty claim was a snap. The bad news was, I couldn’t get a service call for a week (mind you, at that time I thought it was the fridge and not the ice maker, since the non-see-through bin was still dispensing cubes). Got a call from an actual tech today who said, I’m supposed to come out Monday but I can tell you it’s the ice maker and I have to order the part. It’ll be here next week but not Monday. (for the curious, yes I have ice cube trays that I’ve kept since my last non-ice maker fridge, probably more than 40 years ago. And … I’ve never had an ice maker fail before.)

What a cheap piece of garbage part in a pretty costly fridge!
