Hey everyone,
over the past year our family somehow turned into the “host house” for holidays and weekend get-togethers.
What started as a couple people coming over to watch football or have Sunday dinner somehow turned into 10–15 relatives hanging around the kitchen every few weeks.
One thing I didn’t really think about at first was how difficult it is to keep food warm once everyone starts eating at different times. Last Thanksgiving I felt like I spent half the evening walking back and forth reheating mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, sliders, and appetizers because some people were still talking while others were already going back for seconds. By the end of the night the kitchen was a disaster and some of the food was either cold or starting to dry out.
That’s what got me looking into chafing dishes and buffet-style food warmers for home use. I always associated them with hotels, catering events, or banquet halls, but lately I’ve noticed more people using them for holiday dinners, graduation parties, backyard BBQs, and even casual family gatherings.
Once I started noticing them more, I realized a lot of people seem to use brands like Sterno, Winco, Alpha Living and a few others. Sterno seems like the classic setup you see everywhere, while Winco looks pretty popular for larger gatherings. I’ve also noticed a few people using electric buffet servers and warming trays from Garvee at indoor parties, which honestly seemed a lot easier than dealing with fuel cans and open flames while kids are running around the house.
I’m curious whether these end up becoming one of those things that only gets used twice a year, or if people who host often really do use them regularly enough to make them worth buying.
Would love to hear what setups you guys use for family gatherings or holiday meals, especially if you’ve tried a few different styles over the years. Any brands you ended up loving — or regretting buying — would be really helpful. Thanks!
